TexasBecky 1 Posted June 26, 2007 Since I got my surgery date I've been eating more than ever. Besides the nerves about the surgery I'm also feeling like I better eat now while I still can. But I've been stuffing my face constantly. If I keep this up I'll gain another 10 pounds before I get to my pre-op diet. Has anybody else gone nuts eating before their surgery? Any tips on how to stop?

IneedMajorHelp 1 Posted June 26, 2007 I did that too - doc didn't have me do a pre-op diet though - the last week before I had all of my favorites and the saturday before I had my last Mt. Dew - almost 2 months in I don't miss the sodapop or the caffeine - had a birthday bbq last weekend had a brat and a burger patty no bun no problems, no cake either - eat slow, small bites chew chew chew
TexasBecky 1 Posted June 26, 2007 I knew I was going to have to give up soda, but coffee too? Why no caffeine?
IneedMajorHelp 1 Posted June 26, 2007 that was just me personally - figured if I was giving up the soda might as well go all the way - I still have a small cup of Decaf here and there and nurse it all morning
Sweet Tooth 0 Posted June 26, 2007 Hey, I have had the same problems with the pre-op diet. I do good one day and the next day I cheat. But not as bad as I use to . I have surgery on Jun 28. I am getting quite nervous, but excited. Good Luck on the 29th. Will look for you when I return from surgery.
LovelyLaFleur 0 Posted June 26, 2007 I did the same thing the only advise that I cangive you is try and limit your self to eating all the protien you want and no to low carbs. I would go to a seafood buffet at least once a week and eat all of the food I wanted (Meat/Cheese) That way your still going to loose weight and eat a lot I really didn't care if it was low fat or not. GOOD LUCK You'll be fine. I thought that I was the only one to have the LMS (LAST MEAL SYNDROME)
LovelyLaFleur 0 Posted June 26, 2007 By the way cutting out carbs really did help decrease my appitie. I'm post -op and have been on Clear Liquids for 15 days and will get to start with protien shakes tomorrow. I'm really hungry now

I thought that I was the only one to have the LMS (LAST MEAL SYNDROME) I agree about the low/non fat - so far it hasn't been a problem and I haven't really paid attention to if a certain food is lowfat or not as long as it has the Protein then go for it
juliegeraci 7 Posted June 28, 2007 Just try and eat 3 square meals a day. You should be okay. It is normal to want to eat before surgery. I think I gained a few lbs too. Good luck.
DBAGuy 0 Posted June 28, 2007 My incentive to lose weight before surgery was that my surgeon would have cancelled the surgery if I hadn't lost at least 20 lbs. He said that it makes laparoscopic (sp?) banding much easier, since the liver shrinks and it is easier to get it out of the way of the stomach. I did have a 'last meal', though...my surgery was on Monday, and I had to do Clear liquids only on Saturday and Sunday, so AFTER I weighed in on Friday, I treated myself. DBAGuy 0 Posted June 28, 2007 Also, I was told to avoid caffeine because it is an appetite stimulant. Before surgery, my daily intake was two 20 oz. coffees with 4 shots of espresso (one at Breakfast, one after lunch) and 4 or 5 liter bottles of Diet Mountain Dew. I worked my way down to two regular cups of coffee a day before surgery, then took advantage of the painkillers after surgery to relieve the headaches of completely quitting. TexasBecky 1 Posted June 28, 2007 Thanks for all the advice. I'm trying to do better - at least not gain between now and my preop diet that will start on 7/19. Glad to get the caffeine info now too. Anything that causes such god-awful headaches when you come off it can't be a good thing. Hopefully when I get some of this weight off I'll have more energy without the caffeine. Sounds like coming off while on pain meds is a good strategy.
wishmeluck13 1 Posted June 28, 2007 I am scheduled to have my surgery 7/5/06. I am on doing my two week pre-op diet now and yes I have cheatd a couple of times (broil fish, salad one day and egg sandwich another day) I have been following the diet very strictly other than the couple of slip ups. What really scared me was yesterday I had my pre-op done and my doc told me that if my liver has not shrinked he won't continue with the surgery. Since then I have really been following the liquid diet exactly as I should. :faint:
