margied804 4 Posted June 20, 2015 I had my surgery Monday June 15 and I am on day three of full liquid diet. I weigh myself every Saturday morning and this morning my weight is 19 pounds higher than last Saturday. I have only eaten what I was supposed to eat. I have walked every day. When I was in the hospital they gave me a lot of Fluid to get my urine output up so I could be discharged. I have had no pain but I am very down about this unexplained gain. My follow up appointment is Friday June 26. I am calling the office Monday but I am hoping someone can tell me they had the something like this happen to them. Thanks for listening. mandaroo 78 Posted June 20, 2015 I heard you can gain weight from all of the Fluid that you get at the hospital and also from the swelling from surgery.
NewNewMe 277 Posted June 20, 2015 That is normal. It will go down quickly over the next week or so. Make sure to get your fluids in.
TammyDTM 391 Posted June 20, 2015 I weighed 17 pounds more when I left the hospital because of the fluids they gave me while I was there for the two days. It took me a week and a day to get rid of the extra weight before my "real" weight loss could begin. Hang in there. It's just Water. It will leave you. Just drink and walk as much as you can. Lauriebu 5 Posted June 20, 2015 Margie- I too had surgery on 6-15. I have not lost a lb- was the same as when I went in. Was very discouraged because I have been walking since the morning after my surgery- 3 miles around the hospital! 2 miles again before checkout on the 3rd day and 2 miles at home each day since ( it's hot out!) When I read of these 10-14 lb weight losses I am ready to scream. However- I have felt great, no gas, no pain, all good. I'm getting my Protein, fluids and Vitamins in. So while patience is not my virtue, I will stop weighing and work the plan. This surgery is a tool in a much bigger plan ( I need to print this out for my mirror...????). I wish you continued success in following the diet and please let me know how you're progressing. As many have said - each of our journeys will be different. Good luck/feel good everyone! Soapandcandlequeen 124 Posted June 22, 2015 They had a scale in the hospital and I stepped on it 2 days post op, I was almost 10 pounds heavier from all the fluids etc. Give it time. Everything will settle down
