_Kate_ 2,224 Posted June 20, 2015 I have been researching Protein Drinks and found Muscle Milk Low Carb. I have bought a couple of flavours but was wondering about the carb to Protein ratio. Is the following okay as I am thinking about having this pre op and post op when I can too? 500 mls 43g protein 14.7 carbs 237 K calories If i had two a day (pre op) and broth for the last meal would this be enough? wascott 395 Posted June 20, 2015 Personally I think that's too much Protein for one meal. I've read that the body can't absorb that much at a time. 25 to 30 grams seems more normal. I also prefer lower overall carbs. I typically use Premier Protein shakes which have 30 grams of protein and 5 grams of carbs.
GreenEyes604 753 Posted June 20, 2015 I totally agree with @@wascott I am 6-months post op and I don't drink Protein shakes anymore, but that is a waste of Protein because your body can't absorb that much in a 1 hour period, and the carbs are way too high for one serving. _Kate_ 2,224 Posted June 20, 2015 I was actually thinking of splitting the drinks into 4 meals a day (I wasn't clear about that, apologies) but I really appreciate the advice @wascott and @GreenEyes604. I will look into the powders a little more as they seem to be less carbs. I am glad I only bought one chocolate and one strawberry Thanks again for the help Kate
_Kate_ 2,224 Posted June 20, 2015 (edited) I have looked into Premier Protein but the shipping costs twice the product price so thats a no from me ! I only want to look into shakes for the first few weeks/months until I can start buiding up food. Are there any UK based people who may be able to help?
