I have been researching Protein Drinks and found Muscle Milk Low Carb. I have bought a couple of flavours but was wondering about the carb to Protein ratio. Is the following okay as I am thinking about having this pre op and post op when I can too?

500 mls

43g protein

14.7 carbs

237 K calories

If i had two a day (pre op) and broth for the last meal would this be enough?

Kate :D

Personally I think that's too much Protein for one meal. I've read that the body can't absorb that much at a time. 25 to 30 grams seems more normal. I also prefer lower overall carbs. I typically use Premier Protein shakes which have 30 grams of protein and 5 grams of carbs.

I totally agree with @@wascott I am 6-months post op and I don't drink Protein shakes anymore, but that is a waste of Protein because your body can't absorb that much in a 1 hour period, and the carbs are way too high for one serving.

I was actually thinking of splitting the drinks into 4 meals a day (I wasn't clear about that, apologies) but I really appreciate the advice @wascott and @GreenEyes604. I will look into the powders a little more as they seem to be less carbs.

I am glad I only bought one chocolate and one strawberry :D

Thanks again for the help

I have looked into Premier Protein but the shipping costs twice the product price so thats a no from me ! I only want to look into shakes for the first few weeks/months until I can start buiding up food. Are there any UK based people who may be able to help?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
