alicia54 36 Posted June 20, 2015 please do not beat yourself up we are not perfect if we were we would not be doing this program take a deep breath and then drink some Water you will be ok
Daisee68 2,493 Posted June 20, 2015 Ok, so definitely don't beat yourself up but learn from it. Understand that this is not about deprivation but truly about your stomach healing at this point. Just like you can't pick up a 20 pound weight 5 days after shoulder surgery, you can't expect your stomach to be healed enough to breakdown food. Now having said that, it is very good news it didn't make you sick (I am assuming). What are you eating? Try lots of variations on shakes. Try lots of broth and drink lots of Water. if you actually feel hungry it could actually be thirst and/or it could be acid reflux (which I read as hunger sometimes). You don't want to undo all the work, so just keep your eye on the prize. You have made it this far. You can get in a few more days. Get some variety in your liquids. That will help. And depending on your surgeon, you may be able to move to mushy foods in a day or 2. (My dr required 15 days but not all do.)
Daisee68 2,493 Posted June 20, 2015 Ugh. Wait I just realized you said Pre-op not post-op. Ok will admit that is harder but same stuff still applies. You don't want them to cancel your surgery. The food is not worth that. This is the hardest part. It will get easier.
Dysruption 70 Posted June 20, 2015 Pre-op diet cheating? I didn't really have a pre-op diet, except low fat low carb diet for 5 days prior to surgery. I've heard doctors are getting away from the 2 week liquid diets because it's just a little overkill. Your stomach only needs 8-12 hours to be empty prior to surgery actually happening. I suppose the pre-op diets condition you for how you will have to live for a few weeks after surgery, but don't beat yourself up over a few fries and some steak on the pre-op diet. Good luck on the rest of your journey!
wascott 395 Posted June 20, 2015 I found that I felt better as time went on. I'm on day 12. Just a couple days left. At least the steak was Protein.< /p> Get back on your horse and stay away from other people when they're eating.
Shustar 395 Posted June 20, 2015 Isn't shame one of the leading reasons we are doing this? Society shames us and then we shame ourselves. You stopped, recognized you didn't make the best decision. Now for a new habit, take a deep breath, forgive yourself and then chuckle. A few fries and a bit of steak won't prevent you from acheiving your success. honeybunz 139 Posted June 20, 2015 Been there. You can't undo what's done so stop feeling bad about it and move on. This is the hardest part. Hang in there!!
chines66 39 Posted June 20, 2015 Thanks everyone. I really think this is the greatest support I have found so far. I am back in the saddle and ready to fight this demon. Also I will tell my counselor tomorrow. My NUT assured me that it's not as big of a deal as I am making it out to be. To many of your points it was steak not a sundae or cake! Hahaha. Surgery is still scheudled for the 30th. This is a great support system. Thanks again.

Ok, first...you are NOT a failure, you are human....and none of us would be getting surgery if giving up food was that easy Second, forgive yourself and move one...what you ate is nothing...I did MUCH worse before my surgery and it turned out great....the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver...mine was still big and it was ok. Our surgeries are tools, not miracles...we live and learn....it's gonna take a while to get used to , well, everything Forgive yourself and love yourself ...accept what you can handle and move on Good luck! jas84047 72 Posted June 21, 2015 I totally understand...I'm on day 4 of my 2wk liquid preop diet and cheated tonight. I had to bring chips/dip to a girls night dinner. I did great and didn't eat a thing when everyone was having all this glorious food and drinks. I sat there and mingled and drank my crystal light. However, on the way home I caved. I pulled over into a parking lot and ate about 10 Fritos with dip. It was heaven...I feel horrible. I've done so well and now I ruined it. I still have 10 days of this and I hope I can fix this. Uhg. sleevenv 483 Posted June 25, 2015 (edited) Listen to your surgeon! The people here are well meaning and trying to be supportive, but they're not the one who's cutting you and removing your stomach! Each surgeon has his own approach, but he also knows your medical status! Shrinking your liver may be paramount to your surgeon for your case! That being said, don't quit over a slip. Get back on it and remember this is your health and your life! Edited June 30, 2015 by sleevenv
