Hey everyone, I got banded a week ago on 6-12. Like everyone else I've been struggling with my weight and eating habits my whole life. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a few years ago and have gain about 40 in the last 6 months. This was my last resort after years of sacrifice. I am surprised at how quick my recovery has been, i went back to work on Tuesday, 4 days after surgery and have had no problems. Sounds bad, but that is exactly the problem. Its very hard to keep on track when I'm feeling so hungry and my stomach is tolerating everything i put in it. I can't wait until my first fill, i don't want to start gaining the weight I've lost so far ????

Welcome to the forum @mmartin3. I can't speak to the hunger you are feeling because I was lucky enough to have restriction right away though I have read about alot of people who struggle at the beginning. I'm sure you'll get comments that will help you through this part of it.

Hi there and welcome. I am some one that needed several fills to reach the green zone. You can do this!

I got banded on the same day as you and was feeling good by Tuesday too. I suffered horrible trapped wind and I still can't burp 10 days on. I wasn't hungry at all until Thursday, but have now started feeling like I want to eat. I am really missing chewing too, so can't wait to go onto something a bit more solid

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
