The thing that occurs to me, is that the drug may very well help you lose weight, but what is going to help you keep it off?

Hi yes that it one of the many diets that I tried. Be careful there is a slight risk with your heart because it sometimes beats alittle different, at least mine did. My Dr monotored me closely while on it and yes I lost lots of weight but when I was done taking it I gained it all back. It took control of my hunger for sure but when I stopped it my appeitite was like a starving animal let out of a cage. I took it on and off for about two yrs and if I could live on it I would of been thin. As long as your Dr is monotoring you it probably will help you but deffinately while you are on it know that when you go off it you " must " eat like you did while on it to stay thin. I have to admit I was to weak and just didnt have control. I now have the band , I have had it for three weeks and I am so happy I thank god for technology its an amazing tool. It is just what I needed. Good luck Remember everyone is different and it may work wonderful just dont lose control like I did when you stop taking it. Best of luck

Sincerely Kim

I am one of the few people that it actually had NO effect on whatsoever. So I think it just depends on the person.

It didn't give me energy, make me feel full, nothing it was supposed to do...

Phentermine is only supposed to be used for about 3 months at a time. Almost everyone who uses phentermine gets tachyphylaxis which means your body gets used to it and it doesn't work anymore. It can raise your blood pressure and cause insomnia.

Yes this stuff is good.

In Australia it,s called DUROMINE.

Pre Op i used this for 4 weeks with the Optifast products and walked about 35 Km,s (about 20 miles ) a week and lost 20 Kg( 44 lbs )

But after 4 weeks it lost it,s ability to stop the cravings, my vision was blured and i couldn,t hardly sleep.

BUT i lost the wieght.

Yeah, I've used this..it worked great wasn't hungry. Then I'd remember I was supposed to eat; but once I started eating it had no effect at helping me STOP eating. I think I maybe lost 5lbs in one month. Now if they just would bring Phen-Phen back...that worked for me until they took it away.

I used it too and thought I was in heaven. No cravings, never wanted to eat ect. But then, I became contantly shaking, blurred vison. I couldn't sleep at all so I had to start taking pills to sleep. I became addicted to them and when the Dr tried to pull me off, I got ugly. Use with extreme caution, because as one said everyone is different. I did loose a lot of weight that came right back after I quit it....

Oh you're kidding, right? Phen is the reason I checked into getting a lap band. I've used Phen off & on for yrs. My body just can't take it anymore. My heart beats are weird, insomnia, the blurred vision, leg cramps. Yeah, I lost a lot of weight & my house was spotless clean when I was on it, but when you quit taking it, your appetite returns & you literally crash -- no energy for awhile until your body levels out. I wish there was some other recourse for you besides that. Good luck!

I was on Phentermine for six months before looking into the lap band. Worked great for about four months and then my body got used to it. Once the six months were up I had lost 25lbs. but soon gained it all back and now I am actually 5 Lbs. more than what I started at.

I just wanted to add ( this is my experience with phen) that if you have depression issues, when you stop taking this, you will really crash. I too loved it and thought this was a miracle drug, I was seriously high, then I couldn't take the sleepless nights and the constant buzzing, I weaned myself off and found that I was really depressed because I crashed, I won't ever take it again.

The frist month or so I was on Phen was AMAZING. I didn't crave anything. I would say....humm I should eat a lean cusine so I won't feel like crap later, I wasen't hungry. I lost 40 pounds in 2 months easily. It made my mind clear at work in the morning, no yawning, no laziness. But then.......it stopped working. I was so bummed. I though I found my "LIFE FORCE" or something. Of course I gained back the 40lbs plus 20 more a year later. It made me realize how people can get addicted to drugs easily! It's been about a year since I used it. I'd love to get my hands on some before my Aug 23rd banding date. Because I really feel, any weight I lose between now and then will STAY off. Plus I have a big trip comming up and I wanna get a head start on weight loss. Anyone know where I can order it online without an RX? I did about a year ago, but I can't find a site now thats not a scam. I'd definitely recomend phen, but ONLY FOR A LIMITED AMOUNT OF TIME. A pre-op diet would be a great time to use it. It definitely raised my BP.

The pill worked wonders for me - for about 2 months, then my body got used to it and it quit working.

Here are the side effects I had"

Mood Swings

depression

raging mad sometimes

My husband could always tell when I was taking it because of my mood swings (my poor kids).

My mom has been on it for years, and she is bigger than she has ever been now. So, even though she won't go off of it, it is not working.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
