Getting my staples removed today!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved June 10th and today I see my surgeon to remove my staples!... I have been on liquids but a few days ago was the first time hunger hit me and man was it rough. It was a mental struggle, followed by a few days of me feeling out of sorts! And slight freaking out when reality hits that this is how it is from here on out! Im hoping my Dr. tells me I can start pueed foods and I begin to feel better soon!????

I was so weirded out when one of my bandages came off and I saw staples instead of stiches on the incisions! I knew they were using staples for my stomach, obviously, but I just assumed the incisions would be stitched. Strange!

pureed foods will help. Glad you are recovering well. Yeah, I was surprised, too, that you had staples. When I first read the title of your post, I thought it said "Getting my nipples remved today!" Now the staples don't seem so bad. :D

no stitches - SUPER GLUE! it was weird because I didn't realize until a day or so later that he had removed my stomach through my bellybutton. I figured it out on my own and clarified with him at first f/u appt. I had three tiny little holes glued shut and a bandage. the belly button started itching and then I realized why - glue. Thought I had sleep walked into the kitchen of the RV we were living in at the time and ate something I shouldn't have! glazed doughnut? icing off something...Pillsbury cinnabon rolls!!!!!!

I have my tongue pierced and had to do the same thing! SO weird. I put it back in as soon as I was able to in the hospital because I was scared the hole was going to close up!

Sometimes things do look weird when I read them, especially road signs. Before I retired, I used to take the commuter train into the city. There was a sign by the boarding platform that said:

"Do Not Walk In Front Of Stupid Trains"

I took that train 5 days a week for months before I realized that it really said:

"Do Not Walk In Front Of Stopped Trains"

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
