Hi everybody... It's been almost 2 months since I've been sleeved. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on lotions, oils or collagen creams to help with the loose skin? I have started weight lifting, but I want to do more to try and prevent. Any suggestions will be helpful. :-)

Hi CharmedRyan

Congratulations on your surgery and new beginning!

In reality you're not going to prevent loose skin: the best you'll be able to do is minimise it. That being said, exercise is really going to help as is cocoa butter or bio oil for your skin. Both will keep your skin moisturized and reduce excessive stretch marks and skin puckering.

Hope this helps, and do remember to focus on your health and well being. I have loose skin, but it really doesn't bother me because I feel fantastic and fitter than I have ever been in my adult life!

Best of luck x

Palmer's cocoa butter seems to be the best thing I've found. Though it's pretty pricey and you go through it really fast trying to cover your entire body in it.

You could also start supplementing with Vitamin C and beef Gelatin, both of which are supposed to help skin elasticity.

Stay VERY well hydrated and do regular strength training.

You'll still probably end up with loose skin, but hopefully those things will help minimize it.

I exfoliate my belly in the shower, then rub almond oil into after I dry off. I am probably too old - 63 - to completely recover a flat belly, but I tell you what......the skin on my belly is as soft as butter.

Thank you all for the tips! I really appreciate them! I will try all of those. I know I'll still have some loose skin, but I want to prevent what I can. I already feel pretty good... I'm finally able to get more Water and Protein in... And the weight lifting is helping. Almost 2 months since surgery and I'm down about 55lbs. I'm a happy camper. :-D

Awesome! Sounds like you are progressing well. I forgot to mention that getting your Protein in will help with skin as well, but you should be doing that anyway.

I just went past the 1 year mark. Your skin will tighten up. Exercise helps a lot. Did you know a surgen wont even look at your until 6 months after you stop losing weight. Just be patient.

I need to order some Palmer's Cocoa butter before I forget that! I don't have loose skin yet at 2 weeks, but I want to minimize as much as possible!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
