I wish someone had told me that there is a mourning period for never being able to eat like you did. My surgeon told me he could take care of the "belly hunger" but not the "brain hunger". That is something I deal with every day. I have NO REGRETS in getting the surgery.

I had a major meltdown about this just about a week ago. I cried myself to sleep, thinking to myself I will never be able to eat like a real person again. It took a few days to pull out of that funk and I'm doing better now, I am 7 weeks out today, yesterday was my birthday and I didn't really do anything. I am rambling now, but yes this is something I wish I had known prior to surgery!!!

Lot's of us have this reaction myself included. I feel it's because we have an abnormal relationship with food. We use it as comfort, and to avoid stress or anxiety along with a host of other reasons none of them having to do with food as fuel. That's the cycle that needs to be broken. I'm using the help of a therapist to hopefully permanently stop using food as an emotional crutch.

Wish I knew about the positive affects of the surgery a long time ago. Lots of horror stories years ago and that scared me.

Glad someone told me to research different websites and get on blogs such as this one to get real information from real patients. I made adjustments 4 months before surgery and which enabled me to adjust quickly to the eating changes and how and what to eat. I didn't have any hair loss, dry skin or any other major issues. I'm a year in May 30th of this year. I still have 40 pounds to go to my goal. I had gastric bypass.

I'm strongly considering the sleeve and I will self pay. I'm glad you shared information about additional costs for tests. I was not aware.

My revision from lap band to sleeve is scheduled for 9/3/15...4 days from now. I'm so glad I found these responses. I'm already having feelings of remorse over knowing I can't eat as I used to. Strangely, I'm also regretting losing most of my stomach. It seems like an odd thing to grieve about, but it's been a part of me my whole life and I feel as if I'm losing an arm or a leg. I've also been on an antidepressant for a number of years, and was told by my PCP to go off ALL meds two weeks ago. So my first 10 days on my pre-op diet have been challenging. Not sure when I can go on my antidepressant again, so am prepared for more depression these next two weeks. Since I've been warned, I'm sure I can handle it. I'm looking forward to my surgery, and feel more prepared now!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
