I see mixed information on this topic. Do most people need one for the gastric sleeve? Trust me, I've read a ton on the procedure, but I'm confused about this.

I guess I'm feeling panicked today, with four days to go and lot to take care of. I just did a search on the website, and found more mixed info. I guess "drain or no drain" is about as varied as the "pre-op" diet requirements. Just ignore me (after you give me a virtual hug). I'll ask my surgeon on Monday. It is not like I'm not going through with this. :)

I had a drain for the sleeve. It was in the first 72 hours and they pulled it the day I left the hospital. It was good that I had a drain because this prevented a lot of Fluid build up in my stomach. I had drains for all of my plastics procedures too and while they are annoying, they are important. The drain for the sleeve shouldn't bug you too much because you're mostly high the entire time you're in the hospital and they don't generally make you go home with it.

No drain here but I was an outpatient. Didn't need one.

I never had any issues at all. Never have had any issues with food either so far. Knock on something wood quick!

Def ask your surgeon, if he says yes then they are important to his protocol and you will be fine.

Sending tons of virtual hugzzzzz!!!

This reminds me, I have to ask my surgeon if he uses them.

Seems like it just depends on your surgeon. They either use drains or they don't If you want to find out whether yours does, just give him a call.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
