Stay away from the scale!

Recommended Posts

I'm officially going to put my scale up, because I'm getting frustrated when it doesn't move. I think if I just focus on my fluids and diet I believe the weight will fall. I'm just going to have my weight checked during follow up visits and judge how my clothes fit. The scale is only discouraging me. That is all!

I am currently on a "no scale" status since it is now a bad (time of the month) to even enter the room where it sits. Kind of like the chair that slides across the room in Poltergeist! I can feel the Water weight (ugh). I am starting to skip them <finally> so when it happens - it is full blown - to the max, bloated, headaches, cramps....

The scale is a love hate relationship. I am a daily weigher and have been since before my surgery.

Sometimes I will have a week go by and not lose anything or I will hop on and show that I have gained a pound.

But on days like today when I lose two pounds in a day, it motivates the heck out of me.

I use my scale as one metric only to see how I am doing. The other most important thing I use is my clothing. I can tell if I am gaining or losing by how my clothes are fitting.

In terms of measurement I use just my Bariatric team for that and I keep the little note cards they give me at check in to compare.

If the scale actually made me crazy, I definately would not get on it everyday.

I can not do it daily, or even weekly. If it doesn't go down enough it throws my day off. And Lord have mercy if it goes up. Right now, while single digits won't make or break me I'm weighing every 3-4 weeks...it's a guaranteed loss from the previous weight and I haven't stepped off the scale without a Cheshire sized grin on my face yet. Once I'm at goal I'll probably weigh weekly to make sure I'm staying within 5 pounds of it. It's interesting how even this part of the journey is individual for each of us, what works for one doesn't work for another. We all have to learn what motivates and what discourages us.

I have been a daily weigher since day one. When I had my 18 month follow-up last week, I took my food diary with me. The doctor noticed that I was recording my weight every day and putting a smiley face or a frowny face next to the numbers.

She told me that I was attaching too much emotional importance to the numbers and oredered me to have my boyfriend hide the scale from me and only bring it out once a month until my two year appointment in December.

Oh, man...talk about withdrawal! I want to gravitate to that bare space every day and step on the invisible scale. It has taken me all week to adjust to no morning weigh-in.

I also weigh myself daily. I always have even pre-WLS. Unfortunately, I only lose about 1-1 1/2 pound(s) every 5 days or so, it can be discouraging. Since I am following my dietician's program I guess that my path will be the slow loser's road. At least I am losing.

hubby took my scale away on week one, he said no more obsessing over a NUMBER...my clothes are looser and im able to run farther at the gym, so weighing once a month with my trainer is working for me...

once you get out of your own head it gets easier (or did for me)

The scale is pissing me off because I'm stuck on 305, but the ounces keep going up. For example, 305.2, 305.6, 305.8. WTF??? I don't understand if I'm following the rules why can't I get to 299 already. This scale is really messing with me.

Depends upon where you are with this process....

I just came back from the gym...got on their super-duper digital computerized scale with the display mounted on the wall....

Weight is right where it was 6-12 months ago (perhaps-probably longer)

It has not moved, but I am ecstatic with that...and I feel everything is right with the world (well, sort of)

I can't help but wonder how it's going for you! I am right where you are weight wise. I can't wait for 299.

I finally broke free of the 300s, and I'm now down to 294.8... It will happen for you soon enough...now can't wait to get out of the 200s, but obviously I got a long way to go for that. Thanks for checking on me, and good luck to you on your journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
