How long in real pain?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I had gastric bypass on May 26--so three weeks out now. I am really surprised how much pain I am still in. I had two surgeries previously--one on my knee even!--and I don't remember true pain for so long. And I'm not TOO big a baby--I tried to walk myself to the recovery suite after my last baby only a year ago! (Man did I get in trouble with the nurses!) I'm beginning to worry that I'm not just an outlier but that something is wrong. Anyone else feel very badly this far out?

No. I was home from the hospital on wed. And off all pain killers by Thursday night. Now I did have what I would describe as some discomfort but nothing that even required Tylenol.

Where exactly is the pain and can you describe it? Maybe there is something more going on and you should get checked out.

I am so sorry you are hurting this bad! Get well soon.

In general there's still this hot stiff feel in there. Then there's a long line of tenderness and pain down the front right of my belly button. And then a sharp pain on the left. Tylenol helps a little bit at a rate I worry for my liver!

I would call the doctor, you really should t have pain, maybe a little discomfort from time to time, but not pain.

I suggest you call the doctor. I had an open surgery with an incision that is about 8 inches long. By three weeks, I had a little discomfort, but not any real incision pain. Really my incision pain wasn't very bad after a week, but they used adhesive to close the incision, with disolvable stitches on the inside.

. I have chronic pain in other areas of my body, and I was surprised that I didn't have more pain. I hope it clears up for you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
