Having Hot Flashes

Recommended Posts

I am 4 months out and I have been having hot flashes and generally feeling warm lately. Not so bad that I am sweating or anything. It definitely isn't menopause :-) I am even warm at night with the A/C set at 67. Anyone have the same thing?

Hormones, you gotta love em.

The first 4 weeks after surgery I froze. Then the hot flashes started, they lasted about 2 months, and have since stopped. I'll have one every once in a while now, about once a week.

Hope this helps.

Do your hot flashes happen after you eat? I get hot flashes from sugar. If I eat something that has too much sugar, it's like I imagine menopause to be. I get sweaty, my heart beats fast, and I get super hot. 20 minutes later, I'm back to normal. Also, weirdly enough around midnight everynight I get hot for about a half hour, then go back to normal.

I am running warm also. I am one month post-op and it started about a week ago. Figured it was something to do with my body adjusting. Small price to pay for losing 60 pounds...lol

Thank you for this topic, I too have been having hot flashes (I am a little more than 2 months post op) and have been wondering if and how they are related....and thanks @@AvaFern for your observation, I will pay more attention to see if related to eating, although in general I do not consume much sugar. I was optimistially hoping it was my high level of fat burning... :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
