lauragp74 2 Posted June 17, 2015 I'm one week out from surgery, had such nausea trying to drink my fluids, when I finally tried ice chips. I can get my fluids down when I suck on ice chips, of course they melt before I swallow. Does anyone one know if that's a big no, no. I was told no extreme temperatures but I consider getting my fluids in more important! Any thoughts?
agalindo17 331 Posted June 17, 2015 Is ok they gave them to me at the hospital also sugar free Popsicle are good so you don't get dehydrated they say room temperature is good to relax your new tummy but to me is the opposite!! joatsaint 2,814 Posted June 17, 2015 Ice chips should be fine. That's the only thing they would allow me to have to drink while I was post-op, and waiting for the leak test.
jane13 2,256 Posted June 17, 2015 I wasn't told too avoid ice chips either. I couldn't do the sugar free popsicles. I bought a box from Wal-Mart and about puked both times. They went straight to trashcan!

EnglishDan 143 Posted June 25, 2015 My tummy only likes ice cold drinks as well. Me to, i used to be the type of person that didnt have ice in any drink as i never liked it, now almost 3 weeks out i put my Powerade in the freezer to ice up before i drink it, really strange. And yeah ice chips are fine, thats what i was given as soon as i got into recovery from surgery
BizzyB 119 Posted June 27, 2015 They gave me ice chips as soon as they brought me out of anesthesia, so I'd think you are fine. They even gave me a SF popsicle in the hospital. I was told by my dietician that extreme temps bother some people. It was more of a warning that it could make me feel nauseous but if I am good with it, then no problem. Soapandcandlequeen 124 Posted July 25, 2015 The main goal is to get fluids down so if ice chips work go for it.
