Hello all! Thought I'd introduce myself... I'm Jennifer and I had my band surgery yesterday. Done outpatient and was home by 4pm. In a lot more pain than I thought I would be. I'd had my gallbladder removed a year ago and was fine, didn't even need pain meds but this pain was totally unexpected.

I took the Tylenol with codeine the doctor sent and it helped but gave me that hungover feeling so I switched to just regular Tylenol in hopes my headache/hangover would subside. It's better but not 100%.

Clear liquids and soft/mushy Proteins (per my doc's diet orders) have gone down well in very small portions. I just can't seem to shake this headache/migraine.

My doctor made it very clear I could not take NSAIDs anymore (for life they told me) but Motrin and aleeve are the only meds that take away my pain. I have chronic neck pain (that losing weight will def help but until I've lost enough I still have episodes of pain) and Motrin and aleeve were my go to. Now that I can't have them I don't know what I'm going to do.

Thanks for listening and I hope to participate more and more now that I am on the post op side of this!

Hey girli! I had my surgery back on 6/1. I was in more pain with this than when I had my gallbladder removed also but it does get better! Just keep saying stay strong and one day at a time! I was down in the beginning but when I went to the doctor for my one week check and he said I was doing so good and I saw results in the weight loss, my spirits have really lifted and I am excited about my new life journey. Can't wait to hear your success!

Thanks, tamga! I'm happy with my decision I was just shocked at the pain I was in. I also had morphine in the hospital because I was in pain and I think I just didn't react well to it. It left me nauseous and dizzy so that made the ride home and the rest of my day yesterday miserable.

I'm definitely better today and hoping that tomorrow will be even better. I was much more mobile today and will be walking more tomorrow to try and stay active because my doctor and nurses all said walking would be the best thing for recovery.

@girli565 @tamga Congratulations to you both!!!!

One day at a time, and walk walk walk. It will help with the extra gas and you'll be feeling better in no time. Just take it slow and steady now is all about healing and following Dr.'s orders.

Come back often and let us know how your doing!!

My doctor actually gave me ibuprofen for pain. I never needed anything more. I was never told not to take it.

Their reasoning is that NSAIDs like ibuprofen can wear a hole in the lining of your stomach and esophagus so they want to avoid it.

I got my band last Thursday and thought I would rebound as quickly as I did after having my gall bladder removed. Boy, was I wrong. I went back to work Tuesday. Also worked yesterday that involved ten hours of driving. I was sure to get out of the car and walk every hour. Unfortunately, I pushed to hard and am back home today with a belly blown up like a beach ball. I plan to fully recover before I try that again.

I'm still glad I had it done...I just want this recovery mess over with. We will all get there. :)

I'm glad you're taking time off to recover. I'm a teacher and off for the summer so I won't have to be back to work until August 17.

Quick update, I'm now 5 days (almost 6) post op and I feel 100% better. The pain is almost gone. Just slight pain from moving too quickly or port area pain like sharp stabbing pain inside.

I did have a coughing episode yesterday where all the phlegm was coming up from anesthesia and being intubated. I was worried it would mess up my band like make it slip or something but after some research i realized I'd have to be coughing for days and days to actually cause something to shift.

I have my first post op appointment Tuesday morning. I am eating ground white meats and puréed Soups and have lost almost 10lbs so far. I am just starting to get that hungry feeling and hoping when I get my first fill in another few weeks it'll calm that hunger down. I'm not hungry all the time I'm just not feeling as satiated with the small puréed meals. I'm sure once I can eat more normal meals that include not just Protein alone but include a veg and a carb that I'll feel more satisfied.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
