Recommended Posts

Hey there.. Im starting to panic. I have gained 20 lbs in the last 3 months, had some blood test done and there seem to be no problems, I am not eating any different and not sure what to do. I read every where that 75% of people gain their weight back, but of course I don't want to, especially if I'm still eat so little. Is anyone else having this problem??

Where did you see that 75% of people gain their weight back? ive never seen that number and there havent been many if any long term VSG studies done.

From looking at your profile and stats it looks like you either havent updated them, or you maybe never made it near your goal? if you never made it, you might want to look at what and how you are eating and exercising to be sure you arent doing somethings the wrong way.

Get back to basics and log everything that goes in your mouth. Most times, from what I have read, we stop measuring and get off track. When we log we find out that we are eating more than we think. Do a spot check and measure/log for a week and see if its quantity or quality. Make sure you are drinking your fluids and still exercising regularly.

Agree with@@Stevehud, there are not any statistics like 75% that I have seen cos the sleeve is too new.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
