Diabetic Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

I am a type 2 diabetic. My sugar usually doesn't go over 160. The reason that I am getting banded is to eliminate my diabetes altogether. I have no problem testing my blood, but putting all of those meds in my body (Byetta & Metformin) is not for me!!!

I also have sleep apnea which I am sure is due to my weight. I started using the CPAP machine and I finally feel rested!!! I am hoping that I can get off of that machine too!!

I'm 46 yrs old and I feel like I am way too young for this. My weight has been a problem all of my life (chubby kid, fat bride, etc...). I am tired of people judging me from the outside, but it is a definite reality. I do not feel like the same person on the inside as I look like on the outside. When I see photos of myself, it turns my stomach!!!

My goal is to be proud of me, be comfortable in my own skin and most of all be HEALTHY!!!!!

I go for my pre-op visit today. I don't think my surgeon requires a pre-op diet, but I am going to do it anyway so I can start seeing results and can shrink my stomach somewhat before surgery.

Good luck to you bandfan1, it's definately a high when you lose all your weight for first time and become thin. I've had some struggles with the band but it maybe due to other things. Most people on the site seem to be doing very well and you should too. I also sleep with a CPAP and am so used to it I don't know if I could sleep with out it, but it sure looks attractive!

Good luck, brandyII

Im pretty new to this site, and am so glad to find this thread. I'm registered as ciaovito(e-mail name), but call me "JO". I'm 67, have high bp, and type 2 diabetes. I was banded in March of 07 and have lost only 45 lbs, and seem to be stuck there. My sugars have hardly changed, and even my endo-dr is surprised by that. BP has stayed the same, so maybe I have to get off this 6 month plateau for things to get better. (Are there enough years left?) Does any of this sound familiar to anyone out there?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
