heavyb 37 Posted June 16, 2015 Sleeved 6/11 and today was first day I felt half human. I would give a month's pay for a piece of toast with butter. How do you all deal with the family taking their meal? My wife try's to cook outdoors and feed kids in another room. I don't want them to have to hide from me but I cannot take smelling the food. First it was sickening. Now it smells delicious and all I get is another jive Protein Shake shot glass and a handful of pills. Any ideas out there? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Cdagradi1 9 Posted June 16, 2015 It is very hard. I feel like everything my boyfriend cooks is so aromatic and I want him to suffer with me but I can't have that lol. I try and just tell myself it is temporary. Before we know it we will be eating actual food. I began to realize how much of the hunger was all mental. I constantly drink as my family drinks meals.. Usually unsweetened iced tea with lemon. I try and focus on the positive and think about how fast your weight loss will be. We spent so much money on this procedure and really committed to it. nodak 1 Posted June 16, 2015 I have had a few of those moments, once it was over something I would not even normally want. I drink something and I don't feel as hungry, but the sooner the family eats in front of you the more normal things will become. I still leave the room though, and 10 minutes later everyone's done eating. One victory at a time. It will get easier, that's what they say, maybe when I can start soft food will help. JosieAppleHead 74 Posted June 16, 2015 I was also sleeved 6/11. I cooked dinner tonight trying to be a team player. I cooked a healthy version of chicken fried rice (nothing was fried) I used Basmati rice which is supposed to be lower on the glycemic scale. In place of Water I used wonton Soup which gave the rice lots of flavor. my daughter Grilled the chicken because I am still carrying a mental pain from the scar that makes me hunch over when I stand, but thats another thread. I remember feeling resentful at first, which I knew was crazy, and I tried to hide, lol. It's been getting better, as I learn different tactics to help myself cope. I met friends at a restaurant, and yes, while their food looked and smelled delicious, I managed by ordering a strawberry margarita (sans alcohol) and ate it with a spoon. I have had great luck with anything frozen. I buy TONS of popsicles! (lol) I even found some that taste like rootbeer and dr. pepper, so that when I'm feeling really pouty about all the restrictions, I can feel like I'm indulging. I think that's the thing, we are not a population (as surgery recipients) that like limiting ourselves, so it's super hard to wrap your head around. But we needed help making better decisions, and we want to feel (and look) better and this is what it took. It's hard, but worth it. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Garifab_VSG 122 Posted June 16, 2015 I was sleeved 3/31 and 6 days later was Easter. It definitely sucks. I just had to grin and bear it since it just wasn't my time, and I wasn't about to not spend Easter with the family! I think most of this time you're in right now is mind over matter. Just keep reminding yourself why you did this. Remind yourself that it's not like you'll NEVER get to eat food again. Just not right now. livvsmum 2,369 Posted June 16, 2015 Those first couple weeks are very, VERY hard. I did not eat with my family during that time. It was just too hard emotionally for me. I would sit in another room with my broth, or greek yogurt, or whatever. In fact, my mom and mother in law were there alternating making meals and taking care of the kids and I almost resented them making my favorite meals and sitting there and eating in front of me (silly in retrospect I know). It does get better, I promise! Now I will cook a meal that has a component I can eat. I won't be able to eat everything, but I make sure there is at least one thing I can eat with them. I want to try to maintain as much "normalcy" in our family mealtime as possible. But definitely not during those first couple of weeks. That is just about surviving. jaterika 38 Posted June 16, 2015 I feel so depressed that I can't eat anything, I was sleeved 5/29 , I'm still on liquids. I'm still extremely bloated and wen I drink something it hurts my stomach. I have felt everything you said, I read comments and it seemed that every one was bouncing back quickly, 2 weeks, no food, no weight loss. Stay encouraged. RaginCajun 177 Posted June 19, 2015 Generally speaking, you will not have sensation of physical hunger. Head hunger is likely the situation. Plus, even if you wanted to eat what the family is eating, you simply cant hold much. Remember, 90% of your stomach is gone. So, just feed yourself high Protein / low carb / low sugar, and you will be fine. Stay away from high carb stuff.
