Hi Everyone! I'm in Royal Palm Beach and have been posting in a few places to see if anyone in the area would want to start meeting up in person to be friends and hang out with other people who can relate. I went ahead and started this MeetUp group: www.meetup.com/WLS-Palm-Beach-County. Feel free to join and invite others. I thought it'd be fun to start with maybe 2 meet ups a month somewhere central to hang out and get advice, support, etc. Please share. Thanks! :)

Swerdygnome Did you do away with the WLS meetup as I do not see it over there?

I don't live in S. Florida, but I flew down there from Minnesota for surgery with Dr. Shillingford on 8/31. His self pay prices are great! And his post-op food plan is so awesome, with no miserable weeks on a liquid diet. I was scared to be as liberal as it was (for example, soft foods starting on day 3!), but I've had a flawless recovery, no problems with any foods, and am down 52.4 pounds in 11 weeks (9 weeks post op, plus 2 week pre-op diet). I don't usually do this, but I'm including a link below to a YouTube video I did describing my post-op diet, since it is so different than almost every other plan I've seen!

I'd recommend him to anyone!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
