So I'm 28 years old, have been suffering chronic pain for about 4 years now. My surgery is tentatively July 27th, hopefully earlier. Back to the pain, I have/had severe endometriosis and have awful pain. Anyone else have this issue and with weight loss their pain has been reduced, if so how quickly? I'm on high doses of pain meds, and really don't want to be on them so any feedback would be great.

Thank you!!!

Risa

My chronic pain is related to a spinal cord injury so I have neurogenic pain in both legs and feet. I think that what has helped is the weight loss reducing some of the pressure on my legs, but I can't say my pain has improved tremendously yet. It hasn't gotten worse either. I'm only 3 weeks post surgery. I truly hope the surgery does reduce your chronic pain.

Risa, I also suffered from severe endo for most of my life, now I suffer chronic pain from crumbling bones as a direct result of the drugs I took to fight that damn disease. I guess I know as much about endo as anyone, was even sent to Johns Hopkins to meet the best in the country to save my organs long enough to have a baby. I do know that pressure on those adhesions and scar tissue is going to add to the pain, and certainly the back pain should be helped. There is no cure, all my organs are long gone and my bladder and bowel have never recovered but I'm better, now to save my bones. We also have scar tissue that the sugery will have to deal with, I'm praying it's not a problem, I had a bunch of surgeries. I am also on pain med for the broken back, that's why I'm being sleeved, unlike the ruen y, the sleeve alows us to take the meds we need because of better absorbtion. I know you will feel better, I'm counting on me feeling better as well.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
