Touch of the stomach bug

Recommended Posts

So I've gotten at least 70g of Protein daily every day since I started on Clear Liquids (surgery 4/6.) Today I'm not feeling well, probably stomach bug since I'm not usually nauseated and crampy. Not vomiting, and I've eaten a little: chicken Soup at lunchtime and a soft boiled egg for dinner. There is no way I'm getting more than about 40g of protein today. I thought about a Protein Shake or some yogurt, but it doesn't sound at all appealing. How big a deal is it if I don't get my protein in today? I'm on track with liquids and I know that's the most important thing.

Stick with what your doing and get your fluids in. If it's still bad in a couple more days, I would call the surgeon

You'll be alright @missheidi47. You are doing a good job and being mindful of what you are supposed to be doing. All of us, I am sure, have had a day or two of not getting in all of our Protein or all of our Water. Circumstances will come up at different times throughout your journey that will make it tough for you to reach your number. Don't beat yourself up about it and just do better the next day.

Hope you start feeling better. :)

Feeling better today. Woke up hungry, and I'm heading to work. Hopefully it's all done. Thanks!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
