I am new to the site and the procedure for my WLS. I was talking with friends who have had the bypass surgery and talk about the passing of gas and how lethal it is. I have a strange network around me lol. Anyways, I was wondering if any of you could shed some light on this for me. Have you noticed a distinctive difference and have you noticed a passing point (no pun intended). I work in a small office with a few others and I don't want to be clearing the office all day...

I have not really had that problem other than in the first couple of weeks. Once I was back on a normal diet everything went back to normal.

I've had lots of gas when waking in the AM but it seems to be slacking off. I also had my gallbladder removed at the same time and I've read that excessive flatulence could be a side affect.

I didn't have a lot of gas, but the smell of the ketones was yucky for the first few weeks. My girlfriend hated it, said she always smelled it on me, but it went away eventually.

My friends told me they got bad gas right after surgery due to the gas they use to inflate your stomach. The other time they got gas is when they overdid it on their Proteins. They so aptly named them Protein farts.

See @@apie87, we all have "those friends" around us :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
