2 Weeks Post-op: Mixed emotions

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 weeks post op and 28 lbs down from my HW and I am delighted! I still feel like this was the best decision I have ever made for myself. However, I am having a little buyer's remorse maybe. For some reason it is just dawning on me (although I have known this for a year) that I will never be able to have ice cream or chocolate or cake on my birthday (or any one else's) ever again. Suddenly the finality of it is hitting me and I feel like I will be missing out on things. But then I tell myself that is ridiculous, because those are some of the things that got me to almost 300 lbs to begin with and by losing the weight I will actually be able to enjoy WAY more things in life than cake and it will be well worth it. Logically, I am on board with this whole process, but emotionally, I guess I am still mourning food a bit. I thought I was prepared for this but I guess I need some more work in this department.

On the positive - I am signing up to do the yearly 5k my company sponsors every year with another colleague of mine. I have never done one before (we will be walking, not running) but I am excited to try.

Look what cake did for Marie Antoinette! It isn't all it's cracked up to be. ????

You are only human to fixate on what you might be missing, but then let it go. You have a wonderful, exciting, and fulfilling life ahead of you. You spent the last year trying to get to the exact place you are in now and I couldn't be happier for you. Always keep in mind the reasons why you did this and never forget where you came from so you can keep track of how far you've come.

Rejoice in your accomplishments!

I'm 6 months post op and have found its all about Portion Control. I can have it. Just not very much. Probably the right amount for a normal person. No way can I eat half a cake now and go back for seconds. I like to taste a lot of different things now. Just a taste and then I'm good for something else. Yes you will think life is over as you know it. And that perfectly ok because what you have known is centered on food. This process is about recentering. Getting away from the food mindset. Good luck with your journey.

@@KDM74 I had my surgery on 06/09 and my birthday was 06/14. I knew I was not having cake for my birthday and was okay with that. But then, when I started getting all of the emails, free popcorn for your birthday at the theater, free entrée for your birthday from Harvey's Grill, free pretzel for your birthday from Auntie Anne's........these companies are trying to make us fat....lol

I am 10 days post-op now and have not felt a hunger feeling yet. I am taking advantage of it because I know it will come eventually.

I am 8 months post op from RNY. I have had both cake and ice cream! It is 100 percent about Portion Control and making sure you eat the right things in the right order.

You may find you can eat anything you want, it's whether or not you should. A bite of cake and a little ice cream on your birthday won't kill you.

Don't let those things get in your head.

Congratulations on the fabulous progress you already made!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
