June 29th Bypass Surgery

Recommended Posts

I haven't started exercising yet, but I bought new sneakers, so I'm in the right direction. I actually haven't had time to exercise. We had my daughters 6th birthday this weekend, so I've been running around like crazy. Cleaned the entire house in a day and before I was only able to clean a room. It feels so good to get my energy back. On a downside, my period is back!! Grrr...calling my gyno tomorrow.

My doc and nurse practitioner specifically told me no more than walking until after 4 weeks. But I've been walking a lot. At my job I walk 8-10 miles/night

Oh my goodness! Had my first vomiting episode tonight! I went to see Phantom of the Opera in LA with my mom and we went to dinner first. I was so excited to be able to eat normal food that I ordered chicken parm. BIG MISTAKE. First bite, okay, kinda hurts, better chew it up more. Second bite,... Nope. Not a happy tummy. Officially hurts. So I take a sip of my lite lemonade and now it hurts even more!!! Ahhhhhhh! I run to the bathroom and out comes the chicken parm ????. Back to liquids tomorrow to give my poor tummy a break. I feel like my new tummy is like an unborn child. I talk to it, and rub it, and apologize to it. Lol. Holy sh!t, that was NOT a fun experience.

For the ladies who had kidney stones... What did it feel like when you first got them ? I woke up yesterday with pain on my left back side where the kidney is. Today I woke up and it's both sides. I need pillows when I sit so it doesn't hurt, just like I first had surgery. I'm not getting enough Water but I've been trying and I'm really nervous. I called the doc's office on Friday because I had to pickup my 32 lb niece and had sharp pain where my stitch was, and the nurse basically wrote me off & said to take Tylenol. I'm confused if it's just that spreading to all areas or possibly kidney stones... ????

@@TeeNahh I've had kidney stones twice in my life. It's an intense stabbing pain in the back on the lower side. It's a constant pain that takes your breath away in intensity. You can't sit still or find relief in any position. It doesn't go away or wan in pain level. went to the emergency room both times, where they had to administer pain meds. I eventually passed the stone both times. I hope you feel better soon.

When I get kidney stones its on my lower back and usually on one side. But it can happen in both. My pain is constantly there but gets stronger to the point where it's worse than labor. And yes, it does take your breath away. Try to increase your Water intake and when I had then I drank this new drink that Ocean Spray has called PACt. I love the Cranberry Raspberry one and it has cranberry concentrate on it with only 10 calories in the entire bottle. It really helped. Feel better!

Smrogg did you get that at the grocery store or a health food store?

@@TeeNahh when I had kidney pain a few weeks ago I literally sat with pillows all around me and drank a huge amount of Water within one hour just to see if it would help and it really did. Try pure cranberry juice too.

Thankfully after it came up I was okay. The painful feeling went away and I could enjoy the play.

They have it in our local grocery store here...ShopRite. It's fairly new. I'm glad they came out with it though because it tastes good. I have found it at gas stations also that carry a wide variety of drinks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
