June 29th Bypass Surgery

Recommended Posts

I have that issue too, I have to take a sip keep it in my mouth and tilt my head up to swallow it slowly. Like a chicken lol but it works for me. If you find a solution I also suggest crushed iced in the blender so you're hydrating somehow :)

My days are getting better and better. I'm not nearly as tired as I was the first week. And from the surgery I'm down about 15 pounds so far. And that's really just from last Friday because that is the first day after surgery that I was actually back to my surgery weight. 15 pound off in a week... I'll take it.

I agree I think the week and a half mark is the turn around point. I feel much better as well since last Tuesday. I made my first trip to the grocery store and while I did it, the only thing was, I had to walk fairly slow and take it easy while there. Either way I'm glad we're all doing great ! Congrats ????

Also that's amazing Ariana ! Congrats ! I'm waiting for the doctors on Monday to see my weight loss since surgery :)

Well...I had my first dumping experience (yes, already!) last night. My kids got a strawberry banana smoothie and I took about 3 sips and about half an hour later I was done! No gas pains or diarrhea, but it felt like I had an elephant on my chest, heart racing, felt like I couldn't get air in. Best I can describe it as is an anxiety attack. I asked my hubby what the heck was going on with me and he said that's a form of dumping. Lasted for what seemed like forever, but in reality it was about 10 minutes. Needless to say I won't be trying anymore smoothies for awhile...

Omg!! I'm glad that you are feeling better. I haven't had trouble with any of the foods that I have eaten thus far.

Hi @@IamKe69 this is a great forum to get updates on everyone and how we're all coping with our new tummies. What surgery did you have? And how are you feeling?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
