Time in hospital? Pain?

Recommended Posts

Having my surgery tomorrow morning. Just wanted to know how long were you in hospital? Also did you feel pain in your actual stomach area other than incisions? I'm self employed hair stylists and really need to keep making money. I have a couple of client Thursday and a light schedule Friday and Saturday then off for 3 days.

I was in hospital for 3 days. Pain goes away in about a week. They'll give you some good pain medicine. You're pushing it to try to go back to work Thursday. Most people wait a week or so

I was released in 24 hours and my long scar is still painful and for the last 3 days I have been nodding and irritable because of the pain of the long scar. I doubt you will be able to keep those appointments. Wishing you well on a speedy recovery.

Discharged about 16 hours after surgery. No pain. No pain Meds needed. Walked a couple miles that day and the next. Was shopping, flying, driving, plowing my driveway, feeding horses, laundry, etc in the first 5 days. Back to an active job in one week.

It really varies from person to person. I was in a lot of pain for at least 10 days, more pain than I ever expected. I had a c-section with my son and I felt pretty good after that and recovered very quickly. I thought this would be the same, but unfortunately for me (no idea why) I had a really rough time immediately after. You will need to play it by ear.

I was in 1 night and went home the next evening. I used my pain pump from surgery until the next morning to stay ahead of pain, which was tolerable. Day 3 and 4 were my hardest with gas and heartburn. I would not have been able to work that soon. Everyone is different though so just listen to your body.

I had my sleeve done this past Wednesday. I went home Thursday evening. I have not needed any pain medication at all. I will go in to work tomorrow morning and stay until I get tired. I wasn't in pain, but I have been incredibly sleepy these past few days, even after sleeping 10 hours at night! I hope everything goes beautifully for you tomorrow!

I had surgery this past Friday. While the pain is tolerable, I don't think you'll want to work for at least a week, if not more. I am sore and have gas, not horrible but definitely keeps you moving slow. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
