I want Thai food

Recommended Posts

My favorite local Thai restaurant closed about a year ago and since then I have avoided going to other Thai restaurants. The chef at the old place was willing and able to skillfully accommodate my no sugar, less oil requests. I just tried that at another local Thai restaurant. Unfortunately, they didn't seem to alter the recipe at all. My mixed seafood stir fry with basil was sweet. I know. First world problems. But I like Thai food and want to find a way to eat it without waking the diabetes monster. And truth be told, the food tastes much better to me without the sugar.

Make it yourself. I make shrimp green curry all the time. And Check out Saffron Road simmer sauces. I just made lemongrass basil chicken and veggies. Only 2g sugar (probably less since my serving size is so small)

Make it myself? That's crazy talk!

Actually that is what my husband and I concluded during the meal. We have a really good wok. What's stopping us from using it, other than inertia?

So what you are saying when you say "I am making supper" is really "I am making supper (reservations)"? :)

Americas test Kitchen has been doing more Southeast Asian recipes the last few years and some of the Thai ones are SO easy but tasty--better than most cheaper restaurants. They also adapt for easier to find ingredients. Basil chicken and pork lettuce wraps are especially good

There are a lot of things at thai restaurants that aren't sweet. But that means you have to watch out for spicy :-\

I usually get chicken satay and ask for the peanut sauce on the side instead of on the chicken. Or a small order of tom yum or tom khar Soup :)

@blahslee I agree that not all Thai food is sweet. I think so many Thai restaurants over-sweeten food because most Americans like it that way. (For me, they could leave out all the sugar and double the spices.)

I was whining because my favorite Thai restaurant is gone and I miss it. But you all have reminded me that I have two hands. I should make my own, just the way I like it.

Next weekend, the wok comes out.

You will definitely have a greater chance for heartburn, but unless you are using some sort of crazy hot additives you should not be in greater risk of an ulcer. I have found that my taste for spicy has diminished somewhat. Habenero's still taste good to me, but they heat is uncomfortable to me now. But a lot of food tastes different to me now, so I just deal with it.

I did a thau cooking class so I could make my own and it's so much easier than I thought it would be.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
