My VGS surgery went pretty good... I was afraid my surgeon would not sleeve me because I cheated several times on my liquid preop diet. Anyways so June 10th was my surgery and as stated above it went pretty smoothly. Now Im going on three full days post op and I have no appetite and its so hard to get all my fluids in. I guess once I heal better things will change but does anyone have an oppinion as to which is more important getting your fluids in or protiens?? I just litterally have no desire for food at all!

Both are very important. If you can make sure your fluids have Protein you can count toward both goals.

Early in ky liquid phases I used PritiDiet liquid beverage concentrate over a bit of crushed ice (I ate it over crushed ice like a slushie), Premier Protein and ProtiDiet Tomato basil and creamy chicken Soups (these non-Clear liquids allowed by my surgeon as an exception to the clear liquid rule), sugar free Popsicles (no Protein but fluid), and sugar-free Jello (a little bit of protein). All of these count as fluids and almost all had protein. Because of the Soups I didn't drink a lot of broth but Bone Broth is another good source of clear protein.

You can do it, you just have to keep sipping.

I didn't drink any Protein for 3 or 4 days. It was too much for me and I just couldn't tolerate it. It was hard enough getting in Water. I only drank maybe 20-30oz the first 2 days and increased a little day 3. I am day 9 now and doing so much better. Things really turned around after day 4 - I woke up a new person! The pain in your esophagus and stomach goes away because the inflammation goes away as you heal. Just drink what you can and make sure your urine isn't too dark. You are recovering and laying low so you don't need to much to get by. I was fine. Feel better and hang in there! It totally gets better.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
