Hello all May sleevers! I was sleeved on May 19th and so far it has been the best decision I have ever made! I am down 40 lbs and feeling better each day.

I'm curious to hear about others who have gone through the surgery at the same time as me. What are some challenges you are facing right now? What are some challenges you have overcome and how did you get past them?

What foods are you eating right now? What is your exercise routine?

I know it's a lot of questions, but let's answer these so that others who have gone through similar situations can find comfort or ways to overcome their challenges.

Thanks for taking the time answer the questions!

Hiya! I had my sleeve on 5/18. I'm supposed to be on my 2nd week of soft foods but I'm really able to eat whatever as long as it's not to crunchy. I actually prefer to have shakes at least for one meal.

Today was my first day back at work. So far so good. I hit the "3 week stall" in the middle of my 2nd week. It lasted about 10 days. It was discouraging until I realized it was very common. How are u doing Dysruption?

@@Erato Calliope Thanks for responding! I'm glad to hear you're doing good on your diet and have tested the waters to see what works for you. Personally, I didn't see the difference of pureed and soft food as long as you chew everything up to a pureed consistency. I advanced my diet a little ahead (braces for the stone throwing from some) but suffered no problems doing so. This is just a disclaimer, anyone reading this should not take this as advice to deviate from their prescribed plan for their surgeon or nutritionist!

Today was actually my first day seeing the scale move since my "3 week stall" that happened in my 4th week. This is the first stall I hit, but I'm told it won't be the last. Stalls aren't so bad, they help the rest of your body, skin included, try and catch up with what you've lost so quickly.

Sorry that you had to go back to work, lol! But it's good you got to take some time off to adjust.

To be honest, I have head hunger a lot right now. I see things that trigger those old memories of eating a ton of Cookies or chips and salsa at a mexican restaurant. It was extremely hard not to just grab them and dip those chips in like I used to when I went to eat with family. I know this will pass but it's hard to see that far ahead right now. Anyone battled this before? When did it get better?

@@Dysruption, the head hunger is horrible! We have a Mediterranean restaurant and Freebirds that sell food right in front of our office door. I smelled it today and immediate got hungry, but it was totally head hunger! Have you ever tried Zedrics or My Fit Foods? They have small plates that equal to about 3-4 meals for us. They are chef prepared and have the nutrients info on the containers. It's chef prepared food that is cold and in a microwave container ready for heating and eating. Those places have really helped me. It was hard cooking as a single lady to begin with. Now that I eat like a toddler, it's even more challenging.

@@Erato Calliope I've eaten at my fit foods and I might have to go back now that 9 dollars would last me 3 meals instead of leave me hungry and wanting more. Never heard of Zedrics. What part of the country are you located?

I am so discouraged! I had my gastric sleeve on May 20th and initially lost 34 pounds, now I have started gaining weight. I started eating solid food a week ago and this is the second week that I have gained. I drank two Protein Shakes a day the first three weeks but they make me really sick so I am trying to get my Protein from food. I just realized there is something called a three week stall, apparently I have been on it for two weeks and going downhill. What can I do to reverse this set back? I really appreciate any help I can get.

@@GmaPam, I know! The stall can be discouraging. I have heard from a number of people who didn't just stall, but gained during the time. I too gained 1-2 lbs during my stall, but it did come off. Stay positive. The stall can last anywhere from 1-5 weeks from what I have heard from other sleevers.

My doctor and other surgeons all seem to recommend upping your exercise. Maybe adding a few more minutes if walking. I know that my stall happened when I was unable to exercise because of my pulled internal stitch. Once I started waking again, just 20-30 minutes, I started losing again.

Stay strong! I know it's terrifying but it's temporary even of it feels eternal. ????

I work in The Woodlands north of Houston. Yeah, I googled it and only found that in San Antonio. They have a good menu, that's for sure! I have a My Fit Foods not to far from my office I will visit again. The only thing I noticed about their food is it's high in carbs. Maybe on a day when I do strength training, when I get to at least. I am still a week and a few days out from being able to use weights.

I do a lot of low carb eating? What types of eating do you do? I know we are not supposed to go back to our old ways of eating or drinking.

@@joannct1 I eat some carbs, usually between 50-60 grams now, just because I need them for all the working out that I do. I go on 2-3 mile runs 3 times a week and do strength training with weights also. I'm 110 lbs down now and through the holidays I was a bit bad, but still managed to lose 4 lbs during that time while eating some sweets here and there. The key is always moderation!

Where is everyone at now? Just curious if anyone else is still around that had their surgery on May 19th 2015. Have you reached your goal? Are you maintaining your weight loss and diet?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
