Not getting enough protein..

Recommended Posts

Hello! I was sleeved on June 3rd with an excellent recovery. However, I'm not meeting my daily intake (70g of protein). I am usually hitting about 40g of Protein per day. As much as I'm trying, I am still not meeting the daily requirement. Is this dangerous for my health? Will I starve to death? I'm so worried!

You'll start to meet it when you can actually eat. You're not going to meet it with liquids, purees and stuff.

It's difficult but you can get in 70 grams of Protein with liquids. 2 premier Protein shakes would give you 60 grams. You just need to be sipping all the time.

You can do it. Getting in your Protein is critical for both healing and weight loss.

My surgeon was emphatic when he said that there is no physical reason someone couldn't drink 3 premier Protein drinks the day after surgery. You've just got to keep sipping!

I never had problems getting in enough Protein even when I was on liquids. I drank Premier Protein shakes, Syntrax nectar shakes & Unjury's chicken broth. The Premier shakes have 30 grams of Protein & the Syntrax Nectar shakes have 25 grams. I don't remember what the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury broth had. I drank it to settle my stomach. I still drink 1 shake a day. Getting in your protein each day will help in losing weight, your muscles & hair loss.

My favorite Protein Shakes are the ones made by Syntrax. You get them from The Vitamin Shoppe. You can also order them online if there aren't any of the shops in your area. My favorite flavor is vanilla Torte. If you haven't already found this Protein powder I suggest you buy the individual packages first. I now buy the powder in the large jars.

Good luck with your sleeve. I'm so happy I had this done. It's still a struggle but I already feel so much better.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
