I'm getting sleeved on July 2nd. I have two kids ages 1 & 3. My question is how hard was it to care for your kids after surgery? Did you have any help, if so for how long? I'm a stay at home mom and my husband will only be taking a couple days off. Thanks.

This has been beyond hard. My mom stayed with us for 2 weeks after the surgery, and I could have used another week. I got sick (pre-school crud) last week, and I haven't had a chance to get better because my husband can't take anymore time off of work. My kiddos are 6 months and almost 4 years old.

Basically, if you feel a little off, make time to go to the doctor. Ask for help. I'm sure that you are used to taking care of everything, but you have to let people help you so you can heal.

That's what worries me the most. That I will not have any help while my husband is at work and I'll end up doing too much and make things worse. You're right I am used to taking care of everything I had a c-section with both kids and I basically handled everything on my own with both since my husband doesn't get a lot of time off. I hope you feel better soon, take care of yourself.

I worry about this too, I have a 1 year old, a 4 year old and a 6 year old, and the 4 and 6 year old are fairly big for their age and rough boys that love to jump on mummy for a hug :|

While I do work full time and can't have more than 2 weeks max off I do worry about the evenings and weekends. My family live overseas no no sure what i'm going to do for support and my husband already works 6 days a week it's putting a lot of pressure on him also.

Still not sure how i'm going to tackle this. Would love to hear from others who survived without getting injured with young kiddies!

I'm a grandma whose grandson, aged 2, lives with us. I struggle with the being old issue on top of the post surgery issue. I took two weeks off from work. My husband was home the first week to help. The second week I took my grandson to his usual daycare. I still had to get him ready and take him there, then was exhausted just from that little bit of exertion. Now back at work I still have to get him ready and get him there and still exhausted as I head off to work. You ladies who are caring for your kids full time after surgery take care of yourselves. Just like after giving birth, nap when they nap and don't push yourself to try to be supermom. You'll get your strength back and more, but take advantage of offers from friends and family to help these first few weeks.

I have a 3 year old and a 5 month old. I have to say I needed help for a couple of weeks. I could manage explaining not to jump on mummy etc but the fatigue was pretty bad. I would have struggled without extra help

I have no other health issues (makes a difference in recovery) and was 236 on surgery day. I stayed 2 days after surgery in the hospital.

My kids are 4 & 2 (special needs).

Mt parents took them on a 3 day trip when I got home which was perfect amount of time for me to be ready for them. I wasn't allowed to pick them up for 2 weeks but it was alright because I could roll him onto the couch or help him into bed. Luckily not a crib anymore.

The not allowed to lift will be the biggest issue. I did lift him a couple times. It didn't hurt, but I worried about ripping stitches. Luckily it was fine

Hope that helped!

Thank you all for your feedback. This really helped me a lot, I figured I could do it on l my own but after reading your responses I asked my mom for help. My 1 year old still sleeps in his crib and I know I won't be able to lift him. Luckily my mom said yes so I'm happy to say I can stop stressing off of that. Thanks again!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
