I love being overweight

Recommended Posts

Reached a big milestone today According to the BMI tables, I am now officially overweight! Started out as morbidly obese, wearing size 22/24 pants and 3 or 3X tops. Now in size 8 petite pants and medium tops! Went out to dinner with my parents last evening and they are concerned that I still want to loose more. They are having a hard time wrapping their head around the transformation -- a harder time than I am. After being heavy since age 6, I finally feel like my true self.

Can't express adequately how happy I am. A little bit sad over the lost time -- wish I had done this sooner -- but trying to stay focused and in the moment because this moment is GREAT!! So grateful for the inspiration and support I receive just by reading the posts on this board. It has been key to my process. I don't post that often, but I read a lot and have learned so much from the veteran sleevers. Also reading the posts from people waiting for their surgery and wrestling with the issues of navigating in a world not really designed for large people keeps me on track because I cannot allow myself to backslide -- the stakes are way too high.

Thanks for reading! I still have a bit more than 20 lbs to go (I think - will have to see how I look and feel as I get closer), but as I said, very happy to be overweight at last rather than obese!

Ellen

Congratulations. You are awesome!!! And I know what you mean--- I can't wait to be overweight. Isn't it amazing that a size 8 can be considered overweight! I started at 22/24/3x just like you. Got to 1x presurgery. I still have my postsurgery weight gain (just got home from hospital yesterday) and will be ecstatic when I get to size 8. Way to go!!!!

I understand completely what you mean! Isn't it ironic that size 8 is still considered to be overweight? I a. In the same position and when I think back on it, I can't even believe I haven't been this healthy and active my whole life! Congrats to us all!

How do you add the weight ticker to your listing? They are so cute. I want one!

@@HealthyJudy -- hope you're feeling good now that you're home. I remember that I enjoyed a couple of days on liquid Percoset!

its good to be home. I just had a nap and now am feeling much better. About to take a short stroll to get in some walking. Really will feel better when these fluids leave my body -- right now my stomach and knees feel soooo full. But despite that I feel great and am so happy that I did this!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
