I'm a total newb with Protein powders.< /p>

I'm wondering if anyone can give some recommendations for good ones to get/try? Bonus points if I can get a small container/packet.

I've been wondering the same thing.

I knew of a couple excellent Protein powders from when I was lifting weights five years ago...Gaspari Myofusion and one called Trutein.

Great flavor and low carbs.

I don't know how they'd work for us now, though.

The Bariatric Advantage powdered ones are really, really good but expensive. My doc recommends Premier Protein pre-made shakes from sams also. About 18.00 and doesnt taste bad, 160 cals and 30g Protein with low carbs. Definately have had much worse. Good luck.

Are you pre op or post op? The reason I ask because lots of people in my wife's and my support group have said their sense of taste for some Protein Shakes can change after surgery. When you buy good Protein shakes they can be $$$$ spendy. Look for samples, Bariatric Pantry.com sells samples and some protein manufacturers do as well. If you do happen to buy a big container and can't tolerate it, if you happen to have a local support group you might be able to donate it or share it with them or they might have some you can try. Unjury, Syntrax Nectar, Quest are a few that I've tried and have liked for now. With that said my surgery is Monday so all bets my be off who knows. Best of luck to you. Brian

I've been happy with the flavor of Bariatric Advantage that my dr recommends. I'm pre surgery (set for the 16th, Tues), and I mix one scoop of vanilla with one scoop of chocolate. Gives it a little creamier milk chocolate taste. I'll have to see next week about my taste changing. I've heard that too.

PS...ask at your dr's office for samples. They gave me one-single serve packet of each flavor before I bought it.

I found the Isopure zero carb powders to be delicious: vanilla, chocolate, Cookies and cream, strawberry, and unflavored.

I found the Bariatric Advantage flavors (orange cream, chocolate, vanilla) to be good, but they are expensive. I use Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard whey Protein when at home. If I'm on the go, I use the individual Premier Protein (strawberry and chocolate) since I can get them at costco for a good price.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
