Were you given a limit as to the number of carbs? I was told an amount for calories, fat, sugar and Protein limits but not an actual figure for carbs. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You got way more info than I did! I was only given a Protein and Water goal. No guidelines on carbs, sugar, calories, or fat. That being said, I have found that in meeting my protein goal, I don't have much room for carbs and maybe get 45-50 net carbs per day at 9 months out.

Not really. I was given a Protein goal of 83g per day. I calculate a 1000-1200 calorie day (for weight loss, more for maintenance) in MFP balancing the other macros around the Protein goal.

I wish I was given numbers for anything other than meal volume. I'm an engineer, so I like numbers, but my surgeon doesn't. His guidelines were 3 meals a day with size limits (4oz for 6 months, then 6oz, then 8-10oz after a year) and maybe a Protein snack or two, if needed (no guidelines to know, though).

Protein first and at least half the meal should be protein. Then veggies, then fruit if there is room, then last carbs (which you won't have room for until maintenence).

I basically adopted protein targets from others on this board and shoot for 80-100g per day. It means I do 3 meals, 2 protein Snacks per day and the bariatric staff seems fine with me doing that, but I don't bother telling them it's to hit my adopted protein goal.

Oh, I did mean to mention that I personally hit about 50-100g of carbs per day, depending on how many Protein Bars I eat (some days it's 2 or even 3 on really crazy days). A good chunk of that is Fiber from Protein Bars, but there is also incidental carbs, occasional high Fiber low carb crackers/tortilla and carbs from chewable supplements.

My program called for a minimum of 30 carbs and a maximum of 60 carbs for the first 6 months.

thanks everyone for chiming in. I want to make sure I can succeed and if my carbs are too high then it may explain the slower loss. I eat Protein first then veggies when its a meal but when it comes to Protein bars like @Boombalatty I didn't know if I may be getting too many carbs. I was told at least 60-80 protein a day and Water and I do not remember a min/max on carbs. As a rule of thumb LF or FF and no sugar or artificial sweeteners.

After watching my 600lb life I added the idea of single digit grams of sugars if possible and two digit grams of fiber & carbs - if I am reading labels to watch for that including the LF or FF.

My Dr doesn't have a calorie goal, just Protein which is 70/80, Water and carb is no more then 50.

My doc said at least 60 grams of Protein a day (which is really easy, I'm typically on the 80-100 gram range and 1200 calories. If you go the math, 100 grams of protein is only 400 calories so 800 calories is fat and carbs. I Dont watch my fat or carbs. I do try and eat as natural as possible but Dont deny myself anything except carbonation and white bread. Well and processed sugars. But fruit, avocados, nuts, and stuff I eat

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
