Bariatric Spokesgirl!

Recommended Posts

I got a call from the marketing director of the hospital yesterday and they asked me to be the Spokesgirl for the Bariatric program!! They said they will pay for professional before and after photos, be on posters and write a blog about my journey. I have not committed myself to it yet, but I feel honored they asked me!!

I get sleeved next Thursday, June 18! It's coming up so fast!! I am 24 years old and am currently around 263 lbs.

Congratulations! I call opportunities like that "Resume Bait:" Especially since you are young, you should grab every opportunity you can handle, to do tasks and activities that are out of the ordinary for you. The next time you refresh your resume, you add any of these new accomplishments. It is a process that works and can often be that edge that sets you out from the crowd.

Also, a prime skill to have for any job is public speaking. Addressing small groups is a great way to get comfortable with talking in front of the room. I hope you take this gift that is being offered to you. Good luck and may it boost your career in a positive way for the rest of your life.

Your right Miss Mac, it is a great opportunity to build my resume; which is perfect because I am going to graduate from college next year.

I think I will go for it! I emailed the photographer yesterday and am so excited to get photos taken! I just have to figure out what to wear...lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
