Shakti 55 Posted June 11, 2015 I have basically spent the last month on-line researching everything about bariatric surgery. I finally made my choice (sleeve) found a terrific doctor in whom I have confidence, and moved ahead with pre-op clearance testing. I just found out that I have gallstones and my doc recommends that taking it out is a good idea,as large weight loss can lead to more of them. However, he believes it to be safer to take it out first, followed by the sleeve about a month later. On many forums I see that there are patients who have it removed at the same time as the sleeve. Anyone been through this?
Happy13 14 Posted June 13, 2015 I'm scheduled to have my gallbladder removed & sleeve surgery at the same time. I'm having it done June 30th. Getting excited!!
hopefulmom76 41 Posted June 13, 2015 It's typically taken out at the same time. Who want to go through this twice? Is he doing both surgeries or just the sleeve and referring you to someone else for the gallbladder? I don't know but I would really push for them to be done at the same time. That would be a deal breaker for me and I would find another surgeon.
Shakti 55 Posted June 13, 2015 yes, it is the same surgeon. From what I hear sleeve and gallbladder are typically done together, but he has been doing this for a long time and he told me that he finds this the better way to proceed. The surgeries need to be done a month apart. Gallbladder is outpatient. Also I researched long and hard, and he is my go-to guy in terms of reputation, experience, skill, safety record and bedside manner. So I can't see looking elsewhere. Just wondered what others experiences were.
