Ugh I was doing so good.. :-(

Recommended Posts

I am down 20 pounds since surgery on the 21st of May and the preop diet..

I have been doing so good with everything until I got to the pureed food stage..then gradually I feel like I am going back to bad habits or just not following the rules.

As I sat here bored, tired & feeling so hungry, I went to the fridge & gave in.

I am hoping when I get my first adjustment next week it will help me stick to eating slow, not drinking while eating, etc.

But right now I am just hungry and after a couple times of being fine after eating faster and bigger portions ..it's made me do it more :-/

Ugh... feeling discouraged.

I ate when I was hungry when I was on your stage. So don't worry.

I've read once the swelling goes down and you will be able to eat as much as before, that's normal. Just try not to :)

And if you fall, you can always stand up again :)

4 weeks of the post op diet, then my first fill of 4cc's....I then began to loose weight.

Relax...your band is doing absolutely nothing at this point...all you did was have it installed...it has not been "activated" so to speak with a few fills (adjustments)

It is as though you did not have the surgery, and you are at the same place as before...struggling to loose weight by your own will.....and lets face it...we had this surgery because we could not do it on our own....

Of course you will fail....we all did...that is one of the criteria for being a WLS candidate....failed at every diet we tried.

Your post, everything is I did this. I cannot do this..etc., etc...I, I, I.......what about the band? ask if the band is doing anything, and if not, why??? Ask your Dr. why the band is not making a difference....I did, and got an education about all this.

And the answer is it has not been adjusted yet.

Thank you for that info & words of encouragement. I wasn't supposed to get my first adjustment until the 26th, but I called to tell them I am having a tough time now....and they made it for next Wednesday.. hopefully that will force me to do the things I am supposed to because right now I keep wanting to eat everything after being so restricted the last few weeks.

Great to have those communication lines open -- your medical professionals are your partners in this process. And it's a process, as you know. You are doing beautifully!

I am totally beating myself up now, & feeling down about it. :-(

I hear ya! But now in the last 3 days of getting off track I have eaten all kinds of junk & things I am not supposed to..everything from candy bars to hot dogs :-/

I really feel discouraged. I am hungry.. but my bad habits are already coming back?! Ugh..I really hope I can get back on track and that the adjustment will work to control all this :-/

You are in what's known as 'bandster hell'. If you search this forum or google the term "bandster Hell" you will find lots of links to info about this - you are not alone!

Are you exercising? That helps a lot with cravings. I am 5 years out and down 130 lbs. getting a fill will help but you also need to address the reasons you gained weight in first place. Most of us didn't get this fat because we like food. Think of this time as going through withdrawal. Take extra care of yourself. Lots of sleep, do good thing for yourself, exercise daily. It will get better faster if you can avoid trigger foods, the foods that make you want to binge. For me that is ice cream which is bad because I can still eat that. I just have to stay away from it. I also recommend getting a therapist.

So, I go for my first fill today.

Right now I am feeling so discouraged, like the same hell I go thru with failing diets over & over :-/ the last couple weeks during the pureed stage has been a mess for me, as I said as soon as I realized I could eat anything...I did. Then I tried to get back on track over the last couple days, but I ended up bingeing last night when I had done good all day! I even walked miles at the zoo yesterday so I got some good exercise in, then after getting hungry I sat there and ate..and ate..and ate :-( after that I was in pain for a few hours after..I obviously really overdid it.

So, I am really hoping a fill works but when I see that it took others several fills before having restriction it just discourages me more.

I have been eating fast, drinking at the same time, etc. Everything I am not supposed to do :-/ I had lost 20 pounds, but it is coming back on with my bad habits starting again.

I really wanted some good progress this summer, at least by the end of summer..I really hope I can still do that somehow.

Any advice or encouragement is appreciated.

Thanks :-)

Hi Butterfly - I hope your fill and doctor's appointment go well. You can use the fill as a jumping off point to stick to the rules, especially since you were in pain after your binge. I know you are discouraged, but you can do this. You just need to get your head in the game. Yes, I know that is difficult. I had to convince myself that straying from a high-protein diet was detrimental to me. I had to keep all binge foods out of the house during the soft food phase. As I recall, I ate a lot of cream Soups. Reminding yourself to eat slowly really does help. Good luck.

Still having a hard time..after a couple adjustments I am still only at 4cc.. And its not helping yet, I can still eat anything and large amounts, I try not to but I am hungry and keep falling back into old habits that got me overweight in the first place.

Do I just patiently wait until I have the right amount of fills to help me?? And in the meantime just eat when I am hungry and eat normally? Doing my best but I mess up and beat myself up over it constantly. ????

1. Stop beating yourself up. STOP. NOW. That is all. 2-It took me 4 fills to get to "the green zone", it may take more or less for you, everyones different. 3- My Dr. said to follow his rules 95 % of the time to see successful weight loss. Not 100% , just 95 %. That 5% "allowance" made a huge difference for me, because I was "allowed" to eat a little bit of sweets or whatever I craved, because "The Dr. said I could !!!!" Because of that , I was able to stick to healthy foods 95% of the the time, more or less. The weight started falling off of me ! I added in some exercise 3-4x a week, and from the beginning , I was averaging 1-2 lbs a week. So, I started planning my meals out daily, protien 1st, fruits and vegetables 2nd, carbs last, and left 5% for my treats. If your Dr. or Nut. agrees with this, give it a try ! Good luck !!!

Thank you for the advice, I am trying not to be so hard on myself but I can't control my eating habits and that really gets me down every time I try to and fail. I can't wait to have no choice but to..right now I wish I did get full after a few bites, and I almost wish I had the problem of the food coming back up if I ate too much or too fast because I think until then I lack the self control I need to do this and lose weight ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
