I have been reading some of the posts and it sounds like you cannot drink Diet soda anymore. Is that true. I have a consultation on July 2 so I haven't be able to ask any questions yet.:phanvan

Carbonated beverages in general, are not recommended. The carbonation puts a lot of pressure on the band. So, you can drink diet non-carbonated beverages, but nothing with the bubbles!

Good luck on your consultation. Take a list of all your questions so you can be sure to get them all answered. Welcome to the list!

I have been told that soda is not a good thing with the band. Now I am not saying that I have not drank any at all. I will have a can of 7up once in a while. From what I understand it has to do with the carbonation and the band slipping. Talk to your doctor about it too. Some doctors are different about what you absolutely can not have with the band.

Im 3 days post op and wanted to take just a sip of soda to help me burp because I can feel it in my chest but I haven't summed up enough courage to do it.. I know that it will help me to burp alot which is what I really need right now.

My doctor suggests pouring the soda and letting it sit out for at least 15 mins. Pouring over ice helps get rid of the "fizz" too. That is how I drink my sodas! If I don't wait long enough for the fizz to be out, then I can tell and it is uncomfortable!

There is no scientific evidence that soda stretches the pouch. That being said, it typically will irritate you. You just need to sip slowly and see how it goes. Good luck.

i am now in the program and i havent had any diet soda for about 2 weeks until today i had a sip of my husbands soda, it tasted so good but i only had one sip because i didnt want to slip to much. i guess if i have the surgery i can sip flat soda once in awhile depending if it hurts my stomach, that makes me feel better knowing that drinking it flat isnt so bad and that if i have a strong craving i can have a sip

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
