Pre op diet loser

Recommended Posts

Ok so I am having surgery tuesday and I am on my 2 week liquid diet and I am such a loser. Yes I have lost 8lbs wooo hooo! I am also a super cheater though, everyday i am sneaking a little bit of food. I will make up in my mind by not drinking one of my drinks for the day. I feel like such a loser and need some support. I just can't not eat. I can't live on Optifast, sf Jello, and crystal light. I need at least some Soup. I am not worried about after bc I will be able to have milk, soup, and more of a variety. I have already cheated today I had a piece of my daughter pizza for lunch. I try soooo hard but my stomach starts growlling and churning and all i want is a little bit, I haven't been pigging out but i am still eating a little during the day. I am worried that I have done something that will hurt me. that my dr will read my mind and know I ate food and kick me out of the or. any advise, support, or anyone a cheater also?:help::omg:

I think alot of people cheated...but thats no excuse. Fortunatly, my doc only had me on 1 day full liquids, then 1 day clear liuids before surgery. It was so hard those 2 days, I can't imagine having to do 2 weeks. The main thing is that your doc wants you to lose a few pounds the week (or 2) prior to surgery so that your liver loses weight and is easier to manage during surgery, since it lays accross your stomach and they have to move it.

Try to be really good on your liquid diet at least the 2 days prior to surgery and you'll be fine!

I know where you are coming from. I was far from perfect on my pre-op and it almost cost me my band. My surgeon said my liver was still very large and it was difficult to get it out of the way to get the band on. I just had to have something solid, so I tried to eat as little as possible, but I think that was a mistake. One suggestion - if they allow you to have fruit in your Protein shakes, eat it instead of blending it in. I started doing that the last few days and it helped.

I am not trying the scare you, but just want to emphasize the point of the pre-op diet. My surgeon started doing the pre-op diet just this year, when he had to close a patient up and bring them back in 2 weeks because their liver was too large.

Do the best you can and remember that there is a reason for the pre-op diet and a reason you are making the journey.

Oh, I was useless, I didnt have to do a preop diet but thought I would for the kickstart. Hahahaha, I made it 3 days. I nearly went insane. No way on earth could I do that unless someone held a gun to my head. When I started fainting I thought I was justified in ditching it.

I like to eat. I refuse to do low carb. I wont count calories. And I've been a 100% success.

Its all about healthy, moderate eating and good exercise habits, honestly. Whether or not you can stick to some torturous liquid diet is no indication at all of how successful you'll be - but you need to try if you need to shrink your liver. You've lost weight and you will have derived benefit from it in terms of liver shrinkage. So dont beat yourself up - but try to stick to it if you've been told to.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
