Anyone w/Similar Stats?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm hoping to be banded around 7/20, I'll find out for sure on Monday. I'm so excited I can't stand it. I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar stats? I know everyone is different (I just like the motiviation!) so if anyone started around 220 how much did you lose the first five months? Also what sizes were you? I'm just trying to imagine where I could possibly be by Christmas if all goes well. Thanks!

I'm 5'5 and started a little heavier than you (245). I'm 30 days post op and down 30 lbs. But really remember everyone IS different. You might lose 50 lbs in 6 months or you might lose 20. My mother is law started at 240 (she is 5'2 I think) and she is down 25 lbs but she was banded in March. Try, if you can, not to focus on that. Try to focus on getting healthy and every lb you go down is getting you a little healthier.

I have been banded 7 months and am down 45 (and have been stuck at 45 for a couple months). I'm 5'7" and started at 228. I have arthritis though and I don't get much exercise. People tell me that exercise is the key to moving it off faster.

I am 5'3". I was 217 at surgery time. I am now 197 one month later prior to first fill. Doc wants me down to 160....no way....I wanna be down around 145.

I also find that "mini-goals" are really the answer. Don't look at a long-haul....divide your loss into sections. My first section was to get down to 199 by the time of my first fill. I did it and I was jumping around as if someone had told me I weighed 130! My next goal will be 190. Otherwise you wind up looking out over this vast expanse of poundage to lose and it can be pretty overwhelming.

I really agree with this. My goals depended on my new BMI numbers. In the beginning I was morbidly obese, my first goal was to get to severely obese, next goal was obese. I've met those goals and now I am just fat. No longer obese, just plain fat and I love it. 22 more pounds and I'll be normal weight. Then I'll come up with a final goal from there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
