scarlep 68 Posted June 11, 2015 My insurance requires a 6months weight management class , my last one will be in July , I was wondering how long it takes after your last weight in to have surgery? I'm having surgery in NYC if that makes a difference!!
mclorrie 219 Posted June 11, 2015 (edited) I haven't gotten my surgery date yet, but I finished my six month weight management May 19. It was submitted to my insurance on May 26 - insurance received it on May 28, and found out I was approved for surgery yesterday, and will know when my pre-op appointment is today. They told me that I'll get my surgery date once I go to my pre-op. With my two week pre-op diet - I figure I'll have a July surgery date. (I hope)! So your surgery date will be depending on the surgeons schedule and how fast you get everything approved/scheduled. Good luck!! peaceout 273 Posted June 11, 2015 The two biggest factors seem to be how long your insurance approval takes, and then your surgeon's schedule. Some insurances have people reviewing submissions for authorization daily, so as soon as they get to yours they decide and let you know. Other insurances have a review panel that only meets biweekly or even monthly, so those can take longer. Check with your insurance company; mine has a policy that they must give me an answer (either yes, no, or need more info) within 15 days. After approval, it really depends on your surgeon. Some surgeons only do surgery one day a week, some more. Some have kids and use their summers to take 3-week trips across Europe so their schedule gets really backed up. Some have cancellations and people get in way earlier than expected! And then there are surgeons that give you a date before you even submit to insurance. Best of luck to you! I hope everything goes smoothly!
WontonAnimalChIndo 18 Posted June 11, 2015 I finished my doctor supervised 6 month weight loss program and met with my surgeon, nutritionist, and had a psych evaluation on May 7th. Got all the paperwork in order and submitted on May 26th. I was approved on June 8th and my surgery in July 2nd.
magnificent2015 34 Posted June 11, 2015 My case was submitted to my insurance last week on the 10th. Currently waiting on a response, not sure if I should reach out to the insurance to get an update or something. It's killing me ! Hope to have surgery either in July or early August
