sparkles1971 47 Posted June 10, 2015 Does anyone else not feel the trade off of low protien is worth the calories in cream of wheat? I bought some and decided it isn't worth it. On the hunt for high protien puree....here we come refried Beans and chs
cjnorris 103 Posted June 10, 2015 I put nonfat powdered milk in it while cooking and added some non-flavored Protein to make it worth it.
Mandyctr 75 Posted June 10, 2015 Weight control oatmeal packets have 7g Protein and if made with milk it's 11g. Only 160 calories and 200 with milk, plus I think 5 or 6g of Fiber. Worth it for me. They're yummy too. I get sick of eggs in the morning you know:)
gomezk2 24 Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) Try adding a scoop or half a scoop of unflavored Protein. It will increase the protein content. Also depending on your area, your local supermarket may sell low carb high protein milk. If you have a Kroger in your area i recommend their milk from the carbmaster line. 60 calories per 8oz, 3g of total carbs and 11g of protein.. lclemur 161 Posted June 17, 2015 Any suggestion on the non-flavored Protein, and doesn't this mess up when you cook it? Do you just stir it in after? I love maltomeal and cream of wheat, but am afraid of the carbs. @Mandyctr What brand of Oatmeal do you use?

twinhappy 79 Posted June 17, 2015 To me the carb count isn't worth it. I used to love oatmeal prior to my surgery. Now I avoid it due to the carbs. You can can get your Protein and fiber in other ways without adding the carbs.
heavyb 37 Posted June 17, 2015 I think Unjury Protein is supposed to be usable in heated foods and drinks. Check with your Nut.
heavyb 37 Posted June 17, 2015 By the way I am six days postoperative and would trade my minivan for a cup of cream of wheat. Feel blessed if you can have it.

incredibleshrinkingnurse 21 Posted June 18, 2015 Funny how various surgeons have such different protocols!!! I started cream of wheat/rice the day after surgery in the hospital! Now I make one serving and mix it with a Premier Protein shake, then divide it in half. Super yummy even though it gets cold since it take me an hour to eat it!!! Mandyctr 75 Posted June 18, 2015 I use the Quaker packets. They come in three flavors and they're all good.
