What pureed foods are you eating?

Recommended Posts

Did your doctor say that was a list to "start with" or did he say that was what he wanted you to eat? Stick to your plan and you will have better success.

My doctor only gave me a few options. fruit cocktail, low fat yogurt, mash and baked Beans, fish stew and mash, custard and weetabix, all puréed or blended of course.

I was gonna ask for some more tips too cause this isn't much of a choice.

Day 2 for me on purée foods and I must stay it bloody hurts and is uncomfortable. Feels like it's stuck in my chest.

I rarely eat, I never feel hungry and I can't feel restriction just feel uncomfortable And that tends to make me stop.

Any advice out there!

I have been on the puréed diet since Saturday and have been having issues finding the right thing to eat too! I have had chicken, yogurt, cottage cheese, Soup with unflavored Protein Powder and vegetables puréed with enchilada sauce. It's ok but boring! Good luck finding something!

Thank you ALL for your responses????

No, my Dr. Just said they were some examples of what I can eat. Like scrambled egg, mash potatoes, refried Beans, greek yogurt, pureed veggies/fruit.

I never feel like I'm starving because I'm drinking all day but I dont feel any restriction. Should I worry? Will I start feeling it once I'm on pureed?

My nutritionist advised me to start with soft foods, but not pureed foods. Just tiny morsels, the size of the tip of my pinky finger, and chew, chew, chew. I guess that makes sense, since chewing is where digestion starts. Then to swallow that tiny, chewed to applesause consistancy morsel, and wait. Wait between morsels, to make sure the first is in and going ok. She said that swallowing another bite too soon would feel awful, like a heart attack. So, I am counting down the days 'til monday, when I can see how I do with softly scrambled egg.

Oh, edited to add, I asked about feeling full, because I seem to be able to keep up with the liquids just fine now, 11 days post surgery. She said that real food will be a different experience than Fluid, and at first, just a bite or two will feel like plenty. Also, not to drink 30 minutes before or after eating. Fluids move through faster, and food needs to be in there a little longer to digest properly.

Thanks, ChrisC1957.

Your Nutritionist is right. I ate my first scrambled egg today and I definetly felt the restriction.

It feels like something stuck in your throat. It took me about 40 mins to finish it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
