Approved and pre op diet

Recommended Posts

Surgery date is 6/24. Started pre op diet today. There is a lot going though my head. Am I ready? Can I do this and do it forever? I have always failed in maintaining. There is a lot to consider. Everyone I talk to says it is the best decision they ever made but it is a hard road. In my mind there is no going back. Can you give me some of your thoughts that helped you get thru?

It was the best decision I have made in a very long time. I started the process 5 years ago and then chickened out. This time I had done a lot of research and I decided to go for it. My hospital stay I experienced hardly no pain at all. So I'm so happy with my weight loss I have lost 70 lbs since February 26 2015. I wish you lots of luck with your journey and a quick recovery.

It has been absolutely the best decision for me. I started eating better at my consult in January and had the sleeve done May 15th. I am down 56 pounds with more to go. The sleeve is a permanent procedure but I wanted permanent. My mind is made up and I am committed to this lifestyle forever. If you are ready and it sounds like you are then you will have success.

Nerves are normal and we all have been there. The beginning is tough but it gets easier every day! Good luck!!

Thank you both for your comments. I sat down with my kids and husband tonight and really talked about how this will change not just my life but theirs as well. I am thanking God for their support.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
