Am I in trouble?

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

The other day I had a hard PB and for the past 4-5 days I cannot hardly get solids down.

In the morning it is hard to drink Water and it stay down.

In 2 years I have never had that.

If I try to drink a Protein Drink in the morning, each swallow comes right back up...or most of it does.

Eventually through the day I am (usually, not always) able to get liquids and some thicker things down.

I can get water down later in the day.

I am in a cycle of PBing many times every day now since this happened. I know I am making it so it can't get better if it's swelling b/c it can't heal as long as I keep PBing.

I am planning on trying strictly fluids for the next few days and see if it's just swelling and if it will go away.

Any ideas?

Do you think that after 2 years I have finally caused my band to slip?

Can people with slips get anything down at all?

Do you think it's just swelling?

I am hopeful that it is just swelling b/c I can get SOME soft food down.

I can't eat anything healthy other than my Protein shakes right now and I am getting frustrated and a little nervous about it!

I don't have a doctor in town either.

Call your doctor and see if they have a number of someone where you are that can help. Go to obesityhelp.com and look up MD's in the state you are now in, you may find someone. If all else fails and you can't even keep liquids down, you may wish to go to the ER.

I am a lot better today. I don't think it is a slip. I must have irritated it badly.

I think I'll be okay. I tried to just drink yesterday and it helped.

Today I drank morning and noon and was able to eat soft food this evening.

I feel better about it : )

Hey Merced,

are you feeling better now? I've only had my band 6 mos. with absolutely no issues until i got a fill. I didn't stay on liquids for 24-48 hours and must have aggravated my stomach. They said the stomach is super sensitive and the slightest irritation can cause it to swell. i had to get all of my fill out this week to let it rest. when i go back in next week to get refilled i am going to take it very easy so not to aggravate the situation. sooo, my point being that i think you are right about not slipping but having irritated that little sensitive stomach! glad you are okay! h

Yea......I am learning the hard way. Take it easy. Sometimes certain foods may irritate you (which has happened to me)... I finally figured out my enemy is salad! I was eating fine...ate a salad...and next day was not able to get anything down! Ended up at my docs office on Monday. Had to end up getting a little Fluid removed!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
