need change 36 Posted June 10, 2015 I've been a bit concerned. My incisions are red around them and they itch like crazy!!! Temp is 99.5. No leakage. Why do they itch so bad? And what can I do?
Mcgann320 26 Posted June 10, 2015 Mine itch too, that's just our bodies way of growing healthy skin to heal them. Try putting the blow dryer on them for a few seconds on low! Feels good
cooperjack 5 Posted June 10, 2015 My incisions itch so bad I want to shred my stomach. I'm 6 days post-op and today is the first day they itched a little less. My incisions also blistered so I went to doc on Monday. Not infected but I had a terrible allergic reaction to gauze under the super sticky bandages they put on during surgery. Taking Benadryl now. caligul 102 Posted June 11, 2015 You are not alone. ...I found out today I'm itchy around the incision sites due to an allergic reaction to the tape/coverings they placed on me. Drs office said to take benadryl and place hydrocortisone around the incision. But yes..mine is bad..hives, huge and small bumps that itch like hell!!!! need change 36 Posted June 11, 2015 Oh my gosh same here. I went to dr today convinced I had an infection. Incisions are bright red and one is so swollen looks like a mole hill. They said I was allergic to surgical glue. Nothing to do but Benadryl, hydrocortisone, and wait for the glue to fall off. I've never itched so bad!!!
PChayy05 75 Posted July 6, 2015 Great advice, going through the same thing here. itchiness and redness on and around my incisions. My doctor said the surgical glue should peel off soon on it's own, he said I lightly scrub it off left to right, not up and down, but i'm afraid to do any scrubbing lol I'm definitely going to try benedryl and hydrocortisone. muzical1 85 Posted July 6, 2015 (edited) How long does it take for the surgical strips to fall off? I hope my doc doesn't pull them off this week for my follow-up. I think that may hurt. And the bruising on one side looks awful. Edited July 6, 2015 by muzical1
MissRobin 93 Posted July 7, 2015 Vitamin E ointment or Vitamin E liquid capsules popped open and put on the area. It will help moisturize, prevent drying without using any harmful ingredients. It also minimizes scarring. I use this for all my son's owies instead of polysporin as it is all natural. He had stitches on his forehead and I used vitamin E ointment and it did not scar. Thank goodness. If only I had known this when he jumped off the picnic table and bit through his lower lip. Yes he bit through his face. Big scar under his lip. Boys will be boys..... PChayy05 75 Posted July 17, 2015 @@muzical1 My doctor mentioned that they should start coming off after week 1, but I left them on for two weeks, and I regret it, I had to start peeling them off and lightly scrubbing them with a wet towel in the shower because I was breaking out BAD all over my belly. Now that they're off I have so much more relief. I still have some red bumps around two of my incisions and they itch here and there, but I took some benedryl and i've been rubbing hydrocortisone on them, they are getting better. How's your bruising? I have a huge bright purple bruise the size of a tennis ball on the left side of my belly button and it's barely going away.
need change 36 Posted July 18, 2015 I had a huge bruise where they were giving me blood thinner shots in my stomach. The bruise was still there a month later
