Surgery was 1/9/15, I'm not certain if I have stalled and reached a plateau with my weight, or if my diet has been poor...? I'm noticing I've been eating slightly more carbs, my provider has not specified a certain number of calories per day I should be consuming. I'm very fearful after stepping on the scale and seeing guys gone up 2.5lb... I also feel that as of lately I can eat more, this too makes me nervous. I will be looking for healthy alternatives this week to get back on the wagon

My hope for posting this, is that someone will share what works for them (diet wise). I need the guidance of how many calories should I be consuming (I am 273lb after going up the few pounds). I want suggestions on portions, suggestions on times I should be eating, etc. it sounds so crazy, just want to make sure I'm doing everything the right way, this makes me so nervous

Good morning! My surgery date was 1-12-2015. I eat around 550-750 calories a day. I make a point to try and eat every 3 hours. My pouch is picky, so there are a few staples that I have. I usually make a batch of chili or buffalo chicken in the crock pot. Then I portion it into 1.5 oz containers and freeze it. The buffalo chicken I usually it with a small salad. I also eat the Morningstar farms spicy bean burgers. I can't say that I love them, but I can tolerate it. I can't eat a full bean burger. I can do about 3/4. Sadly, I am still supplementing most of my Protein with shakes. Here's a sample menu of what my day looks like:

7 am: lite and fit vanilla yogurt flavored with sugar free raspberry Syrup

10 am: 100 calorie bag of roasted edamane (from sprouts)

12:30 buffalo chicken with salad

1:30 1/2 bottle of Protein h2o Water

3:00 premier Protein shake

5:30 veggie burger patty with slice of cheese on it

8:00 100 calorie popcorn (bad habit I need to stop) or 1/2 peeled apple

I have asked my nutritionist about how many calories I should be consuming and she tells me not to worry about that. She wants me to focus on getting 60-70 grams of protein daily.

I hope I was able to help you. Good luck on your journey!

Does your surgeons office offer any kind of post - surgery nutrition support? Surely they want to see you succeed. Maybe give them a call? Good luck!

My surgeon Dr. Marema has instructed me to be eating 700-800 calories at seven weeks out post op. A typical day for me is getting up at 730 having some hot tea with milk and a small teaspoon of sugar, a babybel cheese and a fruit cup of peaches at 9, a Protein Shake at 11, two ounces of deli meat with a small Tomato at one, tuna salad with a couple slices of cucumber at four then my yogurt with a tapioca pudding no sugar added at seven thirty. This obviously changes from day to day but just wanted to give an example

I am also at 5 months post - I have been stalled for three weeks and decided to start using my Calorie Counter ap for the last two weeks to clock my calories. I am eating between 700 to 900 calories per day, and I still drink two premier Protein shakes per day because I still can't eat much at a sitting. I find that I can eat less in the mornings and by the end of the day can almost eat 5 to 6 oz as one sitting. I do tolerate more foods now, but still can't eat very fast or eat very much. I think we all go through this type of stall as our bodies get used to having fewer calories. Try to give yourself a break, make sure you are exercizing and getting enough Protein, try to lay off any added carbs and the weight loss will start up again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
