6 month Post op checkup today

Recommended Posts

So I have never posted in the forum before. I want to thank everyone who has posted however, as I have found a ton of great information in here on a number of subjects.

I had my 6 month post op visit today. My starting weight was 377 lbs on December 15th. As of today, I am down to 229 pounds. I've lost 148 pounds in 6 months!! It's really kind of like a dream most days, it just doesn't seem real. I have definitely put in the work between what I eat and when/how I exercise. I am very proud of that. I still feel like I have another 30-50 pounds to lose, but I also know my body will stop when it is ready. Anyway, I just wanted to share my success with you all. Keep up the great work everyone and don't give up!!

Congratulations and thanks for finally coming forward and posting. I know a lot of people don't feel comfortable posting, but it's important to help out the new folks by posting the good and the bad, so they know what they have to look forward to. Hopefully your success story will help give others the courage to choose WLS for themselves!

Wow. 148 pounds is a LOT to lose in 6 months. You must be feeling fantastic!

Your post was very inspiring to me, I hit 398 last year, I got so terrified that by January I was 388 and I knew I would gain it back like I always did, after 2 years of planning and researching I less than 8 hours from surgery, I weighed in at 362.2 about 2 weeks ago, then last week at 349 so by tomorrow I should be at 346, and I hope after the surgery I do even half as well as you, thank you for sharing that, it means a lot.

@@laguerr13 You are going to do great! Follow the doctors orders and get moving. You are going to lose weight simply due to the fact that you won;t be taking in all those calories, but walking and exercising has made all the difference for me. I hope your surgery went well!! I know the first couple days were a bit rough for me. Congratulations on beginning the rest of your life!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
