HopeandAgony 566 Posted June 9, 2015 Hi viictoriiaa. I am in the process of losing weight too. I don't have to lose nearly as much as you but I will share what I am doing... my Dr only asked me to lose 6 lbs to show I am able to change my eating habits. However, I am 2 months in and have just now started to lose. The first month I gained 2 lbs. I had been telling myself 6 lbs was nothing and that I only had to change little things like eat slower, and less. Boy was I wrong. This month after dragging my feet for the first week I started drinking Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch and continue to eat a normal dinner. I find if I know ahead of time that is my lunch and dinner somehow it makes my day easier. If I get hungry I will eat a pickle or some olives, or a slice of lunch meat, tomatoes or even a small salad. It's hard some days, but I found a a shake I really like. I really drink a lot of Water too. I make sure I get at least 64 oz. I often tell myself "food is only fuel". It does help but it's not easy. I believe it's preparing me for life after surgery, at least that's what I hope. If you do lose your weight in the 3 months we might be having our surgery around the same time! Good luck. You got this.
Dr-Patient 830 Posted June 9, 2015 @@HopeandAgony Suggestion: you might want to check your sodium intake with those pickles, olives and lunch meat. You might drop even more without all that salt. Just a thought.

*Lexie* 1,486 Posted June 9, 2015 I never understand why a doctor would expect such high weight loss prior to surgery. 10-15 pounds, sure. But 40 seems tough. But either way, here's what I suggest. Breakfast - Protein shake lunch - Protein Shake dinner - Lean meat and vegetable No processed carbs. This isn't easy but you will drop weight quickly. viictoriiaa 1 Posted June 9, 2015 I know she said the surgery would be little easier if I lost 10% of my fat before surgery but I don't understand why so much tho if I lose that then why do the surgery
RaginCajun 177 Posted June 10, 2015 (edited) A great approach to quick weight loss which is easy DIY ... do the basic Atkins approach which is High Protein / Low Carb / Low Sugar. Keep your carbs under 60 a day. Use Ketostix to check each day and make sure you stay in Ketosis. You can eat all of the following you like: meat/beef, seafood, pork, cheese, eggs, butter, etc. No starches. No sweets. The advantage of this approach is that Atkins is the basic WLS post-op diet, which is to say that you press to eat Protein as priority, in the 12-18 months following surgery. Everything else comes after protein. AND, your NUT will tell you stay low carb and low sugar. -RC- Edited June 10, 2015 by RaginCajun

majorsmama 91 Posted June 11, 2015 I dropped almost 30 lbs during my medically supervised weight loss period by cutting out starches. No bread, no rice, no Pasta. I ate eggs, nuts, fruits, veggies, meats, cheese (in moderation) and for sweets I had sugar free Jello and pudding and popsicles. And the 30 lbs I lost was with a LOT of cheating. So if I had been strict like I should have, I know I could have easily lost 40+ lbs in that 3 months.
pacshari 10 Posted June 11, 2015 I lost about 20 Pounds during my monitored diet. The thing that I found most helpful during that whole time, is using my fitness pal app. Having to log every single thing that I ate made a big difference for me:) am now 9 days post sleeve. Doing pretty good but tired:)
Margie122 845 Posted June 13, 2015 I would also suggest that you don't drink with meals. I haven't had surgery yet but I don't drink anything 1/2 hour before or after a meal and I find it help keeps me fuller. I also drink a lot of Water in between.
pacshari 10 Posted June 14, 2015 I also realized I have to set a timer for 30 minutes because I may not have been waiting long enough to drink after eating
